Why would Asia or Africa get more slots? Asian and African countries have abysmal records at World Cup! Why should more slots be given to perennial under performers? IMO, 3 slots for Africa and 2 slots for Asia is enough unless they win World Cups.

Top 8 for Australia in Asia is not a tough route. Also It is not a guaranteed spot for Australia in OFC as New Zealand is not an easy opponent.
They will not go back to OFC as they get to play strong teams like Japan, Iran, S. Korea, Saudi & Qatar in AFC where-as in OFC, only New Zealand and there are other good teams in Asia which can compete with them.

The World Cup should be a tournament of the top 32 teams of FIFA rankings. This kind of dilution will lead to end of FIFA, if UEFA and CONMEBOL pulls out and starts a new tournament, FIFA is done and dusted. Which would be a good thing! These post war organizations like FIFA, IOC dont belong in this era. Dominant countries will sooner or later tear these corrupt organizations down and new entities will be created.
FIFA Rankings are not necessarily a reflection of best team. Belgium is not the best team in the world. They cannot win world cup or Euro cup. Italy or Spain can beat them easily in any major tournament. USA is not really 10th ranked team. Switzrrlznd or Australia or Nigeria can defeat them.
FIFA Rankings are also built over long continental qualification procedure for world cup. Once you remove that incentive, a small cartel may develop of countries who will be selected again and again in the world cup

this is insane. which means only 4 teams at max is left out. should have made it 5 with no playoffs.
