Doesnt matter..what I fail to understand is why is it rich (??) club's fault when club's which cant manage their finances properly fail to buy some players.

I don't think top Indian clubs are rich, they don't even own a training ground to be frank and their revenue is hardly 1 crore per season. This way spending 1.5-2 crores on Odafe or grandpa Beto and inflating rates for others is nothing but self destruction of I-League.

If it continues this way I won't be surprised to see a 6 team league in future.
A salary cap as well as a limit on no of designated players(foriegners+national team) each team can have.

But which club made Odafa the first player in Indian football to earn 1 crore ?? Was it Bagan ?

Odafa is merely hiking his existing price which was set by Churchill Brothers.

What is so stupid in it

Some times truth is difficult to digest.A player like Branco could have done much better job at HAL or Viva Kerala than warming E.B bench, but unfortunately these clubs don't have finance.

In 10-11 Season there is a gap of 14pts between 4th and 5th placed team.Maybe this should tape-up your earlier statement.

About M.B finishing 6th,well you should ask their officials why.

Let me clarify:

You were trying to imply that some of the I-league big teams have so much strength in their squads that a "B" team made up of their reserves would beat HAL, Viva, Mumbai FC & Shillong Lajong etc

Then you try to justify this absurd statement by stating that Branco could play for one of these teams. You must be a Kolkata football fan, if you believe that 1 man counts as a team or in this case a B team !

Secondly the gap of 14 points that you state , is quite normal for a 14 team league. It was the same the previous season , with only 3-5 points separating the bottom team from the 6th place team !
The gulf between the top 5 in the EPL and the bottom 5 is equally wide in proportion.
Spanish, Dutch , Portuguese, Turkish leagues etc are all the same, dominated by rivalry between 2 or 3 teams, who also have very strong bench strength.

As another poster pointed out , there are ways to bridge this gap, as has been done in the US and other leagues:
1) Salary caps , to avoid inflationary pricing of players. At this rate Churchill, Dempo & Bagan can offer MORE than DOUBLE of what HAL & Viva Kerela are offering the likes of Xavier Vijay Kumar, Murali , Karma Tswerang ,Anil Kumar etc. BUT these guys will just increase the bench strength of those teams.
2) There should be a limit on how many players one can register for a club , the remaining should be ade up of home grown players from the state/city.
3) Instead of all this talk of reducing the number of foreigners , have a system whereby the quality of foreigners is improved. I'm sure no will begrudge a team if they are paying 2 Cr for a striker with international experience that ha come to the end of his playing days elsewhere.
4) Mandatory Under-19 player in each starting XI of I-League teams , this will force clubs to improve their youth set ups.

Its like the honeybees making honey & humans stealing it, but the art of making honey is known only to the bees. Same way there are some football clubs in India who are unable to create their own players but steal them from Jct, seza, viva.

Salary cap will attract black money, which in turn will bring other vices. Reduction of foreigners, along with increased quota for junior footballers and expansion of league to 16 teams will ensure more openings for home grown talents. Paying more should not be seen as sin (after all, it’s an open market; you get price matching your merit, no more, no less). Another thing, having a transfer fee system would have given the smaller teams (the ‘player developers’) something in return.

I-league players earn peanuts compared to IPL players, who in turn earn less than players in EPL or NBA. But IPL, EPL or NBA teams aren’t complaining, they know that they have deep pockets thanks to their sponsors. Sponsors agree because the mileage they get due to visibility. So ultimately the marketing of the product (the league in question) matters. If I-league would have been telecast, Churchill / MB/ Dempo would have managed sponsorships worth 15-20 crore rupees or more.

EPL is a limited company answerable to a board of directors, and having representations from the participating clubs. The relegated clubs give way to the promoted clubs. Profit is shared between the league and the clubs. But these are light-years away from our situation.

It is ridiculous to compare I-League(Utter garbage League) to NBA and IPL.Revenue of I-League clubs is lesser than salary of a average player in NBA or IPL.

Odafe 2 crores and Beto 1.5 crore ?? Shouldn't be paid unless these clubs revenue is minimum 7-8 crores

Have guys ever heard of UEFA FINANCIAL FAIR PLAY RULES ?? Yes same is the case here.Unless AIFF cap salaries these fools will only inflate rates and contribute a BIG 0 towards Infra/Youth Development.

NBA,IPL,EPL or whatever league the financial gap between the teams is atleast minimal, here look at a Viva,HAL they can only scout the local leagues/santosh trophy team to fill their roster.

Secondly I don't give a damn about which team is spending be it Bagan,Dempo,Churchill etc. I'm a neutral supporter. My only concern is about I-League and I want it to be competitive and stable.

Lajong FC Signs Jonny Menyonger from United Sikkim

In a bid to strengthen their squad for the upcoming I-League season where they have qualified for the second time, Shillong Lajong FC has signed a one year contract with United Sikkim FC player Johnny Menyongar.

Menyongar’s foray into Indian football started in January when Bhaichung signed him for United Sikkim for the I-league Div-II campaign.

Menyongar, a Liberian, made his international debut for his country in 1995 and has played in two qualifying matches for the 2002 FIFA World Cup and played in two matches at the 2002 African Nations Cup. The former national captain played four matches during the team’s qualifying campaign for the 2006 FIFA World Cup but lost 0-2 against Senegal. He captained the team from 2004-2006.

Lajong’s new recruit also had a successful stint with various US based clubs like Minnesota Thunder, Rochester Raging Rhinos, where he was chosen as team ‘Most Valuable Player’ in 2008 and 2009. Prior to the 2010 season, he became the first signing for the new club NSC Minnesota.

With Meyonger joining Lajong FC, the North Eastern outfit will now have a three strong African strike force aided by the local talents like S.Tuboi, Boithang etc. Prior to Meyonger, the club had signed up former Mohammedan Sporting striker Christopher Chizoba. He was the third highest scorer in the Kolkata League last season while the club has retained the services of James Gbilee.

I am fully aware of UEFA FFP Rules...nowhere in the rules it is stated that there should be a salary cap on players. UEFA has proposed this is past but always met with stiff resistance from G14 clubs and FAs. The basic criteria of FFP as spend as you earn. Clubs need to buy players based on their revenue. A club which earns more, like Real Madrid will still spend astronomical amounts after this rule is enforced.
