Armando Colaco Confirms Dempo's interest on Ariel Ortega
"There is this option available for us that we could sign Ortega. We are excited but it's still early to say if things will work out the way we want," Dempo coach-cum-secretary Armando Colaco told TOI on Friday.
“We are in constant touch with Ortega, though the deal is yet to be finalised,” Colaco, the present coach and general secretary of Dempo, told The Telegraph.
Colaco refused to divulge any more details but hinted that the Argentine star would come cheaper than what Nigerian Ranty Martins has asked from the Goa club for renewal of his contract.
Ortega has been out of top level football for sometime now. His peak years were in 1995-1999 period, then he lost his way due to discipline problems. However, he might still be better than Indian players despite his age and fitness problems. He had some incredible skills, I still remember his game for River Plate in Intercontinental Cup 1996 as well as 1998 world cup performances. He headbutted van der Sar and was sent off in quarter final.
this is too much..infact I still cant belive abt ortega...but armando's statement confirms it....if he comes, we sud use his name to promote as much as we can

Air India signs Uttarakhand footballer Bhuvan Joshi
Uttarakhand footballer Bhuvan Joshi has signed for Air India this season. Joshi attended the Air India trails in Mumbai on 15 June and impressed the selectors with his skills. After playing for Delhi football clubs, Joshi has finally decided to move out.
Pune FC have completed the signing of Viva Kerala duo – attacking midfielder Karma Tsewang and goalkeeper Shahinlal Meloly for the 2011-12 season. Both players, aged twenty-two had a three year stint with Viva Kerala after beginning their professional career with the Kerala based club in 2008.
Karma Tsewang – better known to many as T Karma, hails from Mysore, and has been one of Viva Kerala’s better players in the last two I-League seasons. The medio has signed a two-year contract with Pune FC and became the second midfielder signed by Pune FC this season after Baldeep Singh.
PFC Head Operations Chirag Tanna, said, “The aim was to strengthen the team with quality players in key positions. Karma is one of those players who fit into our team outline for the season. I am happy he will be in our midst for two years.”
Shahin Lal, who signed the dotted line with Pune FC for a year, is a former India Under-19 player who hails from Kozhikode. He was also part of the Indian squad that travelled for the AFC Under-19 qualification in Tehran, Iran in 2007 under coach Colim Joseph Toal.
PFC had signed Malayali midfielder Anas Edathodika from Mumbai FC last month. Meanwhile the exodus means that Viva Kerala now has to further strengthen their line up to be a challenging side in the coming season.
East Bengal are in talks with agents of ex-Portugal star Nuno Gomes and South Africa defender Matthew Booth for this season. With Ariel Ortega reportedly being on Dempo's radar, negotiating with former World Cup stars seems to be the current buzz in Indian football. Neither is likely to
come cheap and that would be the biggest impediment to buying ageing stars like Japanese clubs did in the early days of the J-League, a competition not much older than India's national league which started in 95-96.
An Uruguayan agent is said to be negotiating with East Bengal and a source at the club said Gomes alone could cost
Rs 7 crore. The Uruguayan agent has also offered Ecuador international Ivan Kaviedes and Honduras's Carlos Pavon. East Bengal officials refused to confirm or deny this to HT.
The source said a South African agent has offered Booth and central midfielder Jabu Mahlangu, 30, who has had problems with alcohol and drugs. All the others players could be in the range of Rs 2.5- 3crore, the source said. East Bengal's football budget for last season was approximately Rs 8.5 crore.
Striker Gomes, who turns 35 on Tuesday, played for Portugal from 1996-2009. He played in the 2004 European Championship final, which Portugal lost to Greece and was also in the team that finished third in Europe in 2000. Gomes was also part of the World Cup squad that finished fourth in the 2006 finals in Germany.
Booth, 34, was in the Bafana Bafana squad for the 2010 finals which South Africa hosted but didn't get a game. He was part of the Olympic squad in 2000.
Honduras forward Pavon, 37, has played for Serie A clubs Udinese and Napoli and Real Valladolid in Spain. According to reports on the internet, Pavon is now with Honduras club Real C.D. Espana. His national career spanned 17 years and he is Ecuador's highest scorer with 56 international goals.
Kaviedes, 33, too is a striker and a current Ecuador international. In 2000-01, his scissors-kick strike against Barcelona while playing for Valladolid was adjudged Goal of the Year. He now plays for Macara in Ecuador and has played in the 2002 and 2006 World Cups.
