RWFC has always been open to outside players...Carlton Chapman had brought in a few non-NE players but only as Goalkeepers.
They prefer to have NE players, as they have a strong network through a coach in Manipur , they also look after their players very well and pay on time , which makes them an attractive option amongst the Shillong clubs.
That is what I am focused on here... how will they benefit the I-League? Are they a stable club? Can they become another Pune FC (a club that comes to I-League via promotion and achieves professionalism of the highest quality, based on Indian standards)?
@gaffertape - How will you compare RUFC and RWFC ? Historically If I am true RWFC have been the better of the two sides . Do you see them doing better than RUFC ?
RWFC have bigger fan base , owner who is interested in toppling SLFC as the leader in Shillong football....
SLFC will shift focus to ISL team , thus allowing RWFC to replace them ...possibly
RUFC haven't fulfilled the criteria , and they don't seem to be too bothered considering what little effort they have put into fan activation , media presence etc.
if done properly.... RWFC could be the top team in NE
Royal Wahingdoh should tie up with top european clubs like Shillong Lajong has tied up with FC Vestsjælland of Danish Superliga. This will greatly benefit the new I-league club in future.
Anglian Holdings, an NRI-owned multi-national corporation with diverse global investments, had acquired a strategic stake in FC Vestsjælland, and had simultaneously invested in Shillong Lajong FC, with the intent of creating a pipeline for bi-directional exchange of talent, knowledge and expertise between the two clubs. Post the promotion of FC Vestsjælland, Anglian aims to intensify its efforts towards bringing European footballing knowhow to Shillong Lajong FC and the rest of India.

From the looks of it, any Shillong derby especially Lajong-RWFC is going to be off the charts!!! Especially since Wahingdoh has a huge fan base and the locality is 5 minutes from the JN Stadium. These 2 clubs have a huge history between them as RWFC's rise began in their 2010 debut Shillong Premier League where they beat Lajong's then I-League team via penalties to lift their 1st Shillong League title. I saw the two sides in action in the 2011 Federation Cup where Lajong won 1-0 and RWFC thus missed their maiden Federation Cup semi-final. Happy for them as they have made their best efforts all round and persevered in the right way to get to the I-League.
