I think the difference is between Goa and Istiklol.. Istiklol is the best team in Tajikistan with most of the national team players. Whereas if you leave out the foreigners many of Goa's Indian players are not even first XI Players in ISL. And yes, you cant win with Pandita as your main striker.
Tajikistan have come a long way since that 4-1 defeat against India in 2008. While we just talk lot and give excuses they have definitely made decent progress(WCQ standings and Istikol FC)
Well we have improved no doubt though less than expected. As rightly pointed out due to flaws in domestic vsetup, young players are still to make a mark in ISL. I am talking about 2017 and subsequent batches, while in other countries most have made their mark, ours are still struggling due to lack in game time.
What I feel we need to have two arrows team. One in ISL and another in I League. There should be some age restriction. It will give a lot of option to NT coach and game time to young players. Let there be relegation and promotion between two arrows only. Otherwise only hope if few of youngsters move abroad and play regularly.
Tajikistan with a population of around 80 lakhs(2012) and with 10 teams(just like our league) in Tajik league is one of the most improved teams in Asia. One factor which might have helped them is the presence of Uzbekistan. Tajiks wanted to improve and become a good team like Uzbekistan. And a good federation with a plan might have helped them.
They are also poor like Bihar and of short stature, I guess At the end of the day, it comes down to skills and quality If players don't develop basic skills and master them even 50 team league with 98 league games won't make a change Example Changette, Udanta, Ashique haven't improved a bit in all these years.
Bench strength is an issue in Indian football currently, more prominent because outside main 12-14 players very less actually gets to play. Neither is the league long, neither it has reserve league, nor proper recovery period even fir first 11 players. Not sure if the next season is going to have 3 matches against a team, if so the 3rd match should mandatorily be earmark3d as reserves match with some rules in place which can be thought of. That should be done by the league committee ti ensure maximum players in squad gets a chance. Players like Dheeraj, Sumit, Komal, etc wasted their precious 2-3 years already and the advantage we had gained with the 2017 world cup is already gone. Look at other players who had participated in that world cup. They are actually winning leagues or participating in ACL kind of matches.
