The 2023 Merdeka Tournament will be the 42nd edition of the tournament which is organised by the Football Association of Malaysia. The tournament, which will feature three participants--India, Tajikistan and hosts Malaysia--is scheduled to take place between 13 and 17 October.

The tournament, which bears the Malay word for independence, was one of the oldest and most prestigious international football tournaments in Asia until it was stopped in 2013. It was once regarded as the ‘Grand Old Lady of Asia’ where top teams from around the world would compete.

India has seen some of its stars of the Golden Era, namely P. K. Banerjee and Tulsidas Balaram, shine in the tournament.

The host, Malaysia, remains the most successful team with 10 titles.

India has finished as runner-up twice, in 1959 and 1964, and last participated in 2001. All matches will be played at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.

India will play Malaysia on October 13 as per the original schedule. The winners of this match will play Tajikistan in the final on October 17

Slight hope is their main goal scoring threat Paulo Josue is out with dengue for Malaysia. But our poor away record and jam packed stadium with 90,000 people will be an interesting experience for all players. 

Also their defender Dion Cools has played well against top asian sides. Will be interesting to see Chettri vs Cools and who comes out on top. This is a very good test before even thinking about top asian sides.

India playing really poor frustrating football..... we played well against iraq than this... Every one is sleeping on the field passing in their own half...

The players should realise that you cannot back pass and square pass at a leisurely pace like in the ISL.
