The pilot project for the global scouting programme was first held in Dubai where 5 players were selected among which three are left footed players, it must be noted that prior to the scouting in Dubai Indian U17 squad didnt have a single left footed player, even coach Nicolai Adam expressed his desire of having left footed players in his squad which seems to be fullfilled now and Abhishek is now confident that similar programmes can be staged across the world, first in the Middle-East and then to countries like United States, Australia and South Africa.
"I am looking at a few other countries as there are inquiries from across the globe. It's encouraging. We have to put a collective effort; we all need to work together, towards a common goal of fielding the best possible squad for the Under-17 World Cup.
"The United States could be an interesting option. There are plenty of students and parents who have shifted there. They still have Indian passports and I am in possession of some really good CVs and videos. We will not leave any stone unturned in our search for the best Indian players," said Abhishek who has over 50 international caps and is a two-time winner of the Nehru Cup.
Abhishek said the scouting process, at least for the under-17 team, will continue till December.
Well we hardly have any senior level Indian Citizen Footballers playing in Foreign clubs and we dont know about them? Those who went abroad for training or for Foreign club went thru the system and are always on the radar for NT or for Indian clubs.
You may find some actually; the likes Shiddhart Khuswaha or Prateik Sindhe or Abneet Bharti came to news after the expansion of Indian media, there may have been players before them. There may be cases like Varin Mehta too; where the affluent parents wanted better infrastructures for them. Or there may cases like Kean Lewis; where education played a major role in shifting bases.
