The AIFF and Praful Patel in cahoots with IMG-Reliance have probably realized that the only way to get back their 700Cr investment into Indain football is by creating a new higher profile league & or hosting the U-17 World Cup.
If there are 3-5 big money investors willing to fund stadia, then this could in the longer run be for the good of the game in the country...
I'm not 100% on the facts ,yet, but just to open the other side of the argument...
None of the current clubs , except Pune FC have a genuine U-15, U-17 and U-19/20 team
The 2 oldest clubs Mohun Bagan & East Bengal have done nothing for youth development ( please don't bore me with the SAIL 'Academy' nonsense)
The most 'successful' I-League teams, Dempo, Salgaocar & Churchill have done very very little until recently for fan activation or infrastructure..
Shillong & Sikkim might have attracted sponsors, but due to the minuscule populations of those regions, the amount raised is not even enough to buy for 2 of the top paid Indian players !
Indian football needs re-structuring , and whilst this process may be tainted , the outcome could benefit.
Before @arsenalkid jumps down my throat on this....you haven't lived in India, and unfortunately this is how things work in this country. Without the politicians and their rich buddies, nothing will progress. If you want ot move forward in terms of new stadiums , better facilities etc, you have to play ball with them
@Gaffertape Quite the opposite my friend I actually agree with what you say. We all know that what Indian football lacks is the money. Why do you think I got frustrated when @kshitijUSFC told me that United Sikkim had no money to get a 31 year old Sushath Mathew or that I get really, really suspicious when I hear about the "amazing things" happening in Goan football and "all that money" they have. If they did then Indian football would be much better right now.
Now where I disagree is how they are doing it. IMG has to be smart enough to know that in the long run a 2-month publicity league will not cut it in India. The reason it works for Hockey and Cricket is because those are not club dominate sports. Most games are internationals. Football is a 7-10 month domestic league. And hopefully the AIFF, the ones running the football in India, recognize this and even Wim, Baan, and Papas understand this as well.
If the IMG were smart they would at least try and make the league longer and have the "marquee" players be younger and not retired. Their are many players available who would love to come to India. Guys like Robert Pires, Gianluca Zambrotta, Míchel Salgado, and Juan Román Riquelme are currently free agents and would love to make India their last stop (but for a price) and if we can do that then perfect.
Start the league. Auction the star players (real star players), let the Indian players be auctioned after that along with other foreigners (foreigners auctioned separately), and then start a 7 month league with around 8 franchises and have the play-offs which ends with the final.
Markets: Goa, Kolkata, Pune, Mumbai, Assam, Delhi, Chennai or Bangalore, Kerala.
Not only could this be successful but it could really bring a sense of pride as well to supporters. Seeing Indian internationals like Jeje Lalkephlua, Sanju Pradhan, and Syed Nabi line-up along-side a super star like Juan Román Riquelme. That is a dream.
It can work and if we can get help from politicians and companies then Indian football will reach higher levels. It is very achievable if you are smart about it.
Somebody tell this guy @Arsenalkid700 about the money power of Dempo and Salgaocar. He says he is still suspicious about that. You know that Ambani's sister is married to one of the Salgaocar brothers??? What more money power you want.
If they have money, that does not mean they will splash it around to raise the standard of Indian football. Whatever they are doing at present is a big thing considering that it is all "LOSS" and no profit. Why will somebody keep doing charity of crores of rupees.

Goan football is the real roller-coaster.
What world are you living in my friend. All the clubs are losing money and thats why Mahindra and JCT closed down. You are behaving as though you are unaware of anything. Indian football is the real roller-coaster.Only EB may be earning some money but they too will be in loss and not profit. Rest all are a loss making entity. So get real and open your eyes.
I do not think you understand where I am coming from. I knew Goan clubs were losing money.
Let me give you an example of how you could have told I felt that way... Goan clubs and fans paying for tickets. The argument was the ticket sales meant nothing at all and that the Goan clubs can run on with the owners and sponsorships yet I went against that idea because no team or sports league in the world can do that and come out with a profit.
From the beginning it was obvious that the Goan clubs are making a losing investment and anyone who disagrees needs to look closer into the facts.
Hell I doubt East Bengal is making a profit at all. No club in the I-League is making a profit and that is for many reasons. Perhaps that is good enough justification for the proposed IPL-type football league but will it solve the other problems facing Indian football... in the proposed league current stages, not at all.

And bend some rules.
Dodsal FC fail to register in the Second division I-League, may get direct entry in the next season’s I-League.
