Sorry let me reword that because I may have confused some people with the tone of my last sentence and my past views...
How many fans do you think will come see Kalighat and Mohammedan?
Also IMS well Dempo is starting to get 18,000 at Fatorda also I am not giving up on them yet. The fact that floodlights dont work causing the fans to stay on one side of the stadium and the other fact that only 1 club actually is in that city (Margao) (Everyone else is Panjim, Salcette, and Vasco) so cant really give any estimate on average Goan attendance yet.
That is a bad question Arsenalfan. That shows you haven't watched them playing at all when they were in the I League/NFL
They were the only team who garnered huge support wherever they went to play. Even in Kolkata they are/were part of the BIG 3 alongside KEB and MMB. So there used to be 3 derby matches instead of now. And I am not talking about times forgotten. Its a recent past. All this can come back when they return to top flight.
Another thing. You are behaving like a fundamentalist whose religion is CLUB NAME AFTER CITY NAME. And thus you fail to understand that Mohammedan SC has a bigger impact than A certain CITY FC

I have seen them in I-League. Obviously attendance has an effect though when a club goes down a division. No.

YAY! 5 KOLKATA TEAMS!!!! That is definetly the need for Indian Football right now. While we are at it why dont we promote Vasco SC to I-League too. 5 teams from Goa and 5 teams from Kolkata! YAY! 10 out of 14 teams in 2 place will be a massive success and should lead us to the AFC Asian Cup in 2015. I see a super bright future for Indian Football! <!-- s:dance: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/eusa/dance.gif" alt="" title="Dance" /><!-- s:dance: -->
Well let the competition decide. We want best 14 teams playing in I-league no matter where they come from. No compromise with quality. Otherwise we are surely never gonna qualify for any Asian Cup ever

Wow, really... I could care less about any teams quality on the field. If they are willing to market there team and actually develop there youth then I will welcome them.
I would rather take a team that is shit on the field and willing to market in there city and state and focus on youth (like Eagles FC) instead of some good quality team who could not care less for marketing and youth (Vasco SC)
You want India in the AFC Asian Cup then we need to face reality and be patient. Work on spreading the league all over India and getting I-League teams who want to market themselves and focus on there youth development. The good players will come in naturally. We just need some patience.
Also I know Mohammedan is a great historic club that can also bring a crowd into SLS but they should not and will not be in I-League next season. It should be a club from the North-East, preferably United Sikkim FC and Royal Wahingdoh FC. They have the willingness to market there team and can bring in great crowds.
BUT!!! Before you think to yourself that I dont ever want Mohammedan in I-League please think again. I think that once I-League gets to 16 teams in which we have 2 clubs in Goa, 2 in Kolkata, 2 in Kerala, 3 in Maharashtra, 1 in Delhi, 3 in the North-East, 1 in Jharkhand, 1 in Lucknow, and 1 in Bangalore then Mohammedan can come up along with another Goan club making it an 18 team league with 3 clubs from Goa, 3 from Kolkata, 3 from Maharashtra, 3 from the North-East, 2 from Kerala, 1 from Delhi, 1 from Jharkhand or Orissa, 1 from Lucknow or Orissa and 1 from Bangalore.
We will have many clubs then who are willing to market and invest in youth along with those big historic clubs like Mohammedan, East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Dempo etc who will draw 40,000 people a game. Think about it. It will take time but this can realistically happen but a lot of thinking and planning needs to be done by clubs, the federation, state federations and sponsors in order for this to happen.
Once again my dream league...
1) East Bengal FC, 2) Mohun Bagan AC, 3) Mohammedan SC, 4) Dempo SC, 5) Sporting Clube de Goa, 6) Salgaocar SC, 7) Pune FC, 8) Mumbai FC, 9) A Nagpur Team, 10) United Sikkim FC, 11) Royal Wahingdoh FC, 12) Shillong Lajong FC, 13) Eagles FC, 14) A Kerala Team, 15) Delhi United FC, 16) Bangalore Kickers FC, 17) Orissa or Jharkhand team, 18) Orissa or Lucknow team
Having too many teams from 1 regions devalues their marketing value , especially with sponsors. This is the reason the IPL model is so successful in India.
The EPL style model of letting the best clubs rise to the top ( & then rich Arabs, Russians , Americans helping to catapult the team ) will not work in India, as regions like Nagpur, Orissa, Jharkhand etc. don't have a footballing culture that will ensure regular fans as well as local coaches who can nurture & develop the talent.
Sikkim , Wahingdoh , Vasco & the Kolkata clubs have deep enough pockets to develop academies & they sit in areas with an abundance of raw talent.
The I-League is heading towards a franchise model in 2 years and some changes will take place along the lines of Arsenalkid's wishes, but it has to be in respecting the existing tradition and history of clubs that have helped shape Indian football.
