Subrata Paul suspension revoked by NADA, AIFF and team doctor reprimanded
    05-Jul-2017 22:00:33

The Arjuna Awardee has his provisional suspension revoked on his anti-doping violation by the national agency...India international goalkeeper Subrata Paul escaped with a warning from the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), with his provisional suspension being revoked with immediate effect on Wednesday.I-League: AIFF League Committee stalls decision on number of foreign playersThe 30-year-old failed a doping test conducted onhim 18th March earlier this year. His urine dope sample reported positive by the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) for the presence of Terbutaline (Beta-2-Agonist), a prohibited substance. He was immediately put on provisional suspension as Paul then waived off for his 'B' sample analysis. The Anti Doping Disciplinary Panel (ADDP) conducted hearings on 31st May and 12th July and revealed their decision on Wednesday.“In this case, the anti-doping rule violation involves a specified substance and the athlete was able to prove that the dope violation was not intentional. Under article 10.5.1.1 of the NADA code wherein a provision for no significant fault or negligence is available, Subrata Paul has been reprimanded for anti doping rule violation although no period of ineligibility has been imposed upon him. His suspension stands revoked with immediate effect. However, the national team doctor and the parent body of Indian football, All India Football Federation (AIFF) admonished for the lapse of judgement by the NADA."The Anti Doping Disciplinary Panel has also warned the All India Football Federation for negligence as it has failed to provide guidelines to be followed by team doctor appointed by them.It is a strict liability of the federation to take absolute precaution for prohibited substances in any form either in medicines or dietary/nutritional supplements."The team doctor now faces wrath from the AIFF after NADA stressed has suggested strict action against him. " The doctor during his appearance before the panel had admitted in writing that he failed to take due care in prescribing the medicine to the athlete which led to his ingestion of prohibited substance. The federation has been directed to take necessary action against the team doctor," stated the release.
The Arjuna Awardee can now breath a sigh of relief after averting a career-shaming error. He was contracted to DSK Shivajians in the I-League and NorthEast United in the Indian Super League. The John Abraham owned franchise are yet to announce their list of retained players but sources close toGoalconfirm that Paul is not in their scheme of plans. The former FC Vestsjaelland 'keeper looks increasingly likely to go into the ISL player draft on 23rd July. There is a great chance of him being picked up by the new Tata Steel team from Jamshedpur, which will reunite him with his footballing alma mater, the Tata Football Academy.

Clean chit by NADA is final or it can be overturned by WADA as that was seen in the case of Narsingh Yadav !!! Fault of doctor is not taken as any excuse by world body. He can play in ISL but will SC select him for Asian Cup qualifiers because WADA and FIFA has zero tolerance for that.

The idea is to make him eligible for ISL only.

I think so. How many proven drug cheats escape punishment from FIFA? Every person can make such an excuse and make doctor a scapegoat.

NADA should have handed a 1 year suspension to Pal and banned the doctor for 2 years. These cheats should not be allowed near a football match.

Former India goalkeeper Subrata Paul calls it quits on career spanning 16 years

One of the greatest Indian goalkeepers Subrata Paul (36) on Friday decided to call it quits, bringing curtains on a glittering career spanning 16 years.

"Thank You, Spiderman. Blue Tigers custodian hangs up his gloves today," the All India Football Federation posted on X.

Paul, who made his debut against Lebanon in the World Cup qualifiers in 2007, had 65 appearances for India.

He earned the sobriquet "Spiderman" for his heroics under the bar against heavyweights South Korea in the 2011 Asian Cup in Doha when India had qualified after a gap of 27 years.

Overall, Paul made more than 35 saves in the whole tournament and has become one of the stars of the team since.

South Korea had 20 shots on goal of which Paul saved 16 as India went down 1-4 in a valiant display.

Paul captained the Indian team under coach Stephen Constantine in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers.

Under him, India made the second round defeating Nepal on aggregate.

At the club level, he represented both the city's Big Two -- Mohun Bagan and East Bengal.

Hailing from Sodepur in West Bengal, Paul is a graduate of Tata Football Academy and started out from Mohun Bagan.

He was involved in a tragic incident when Dempo forward Cristiano Junior lost his life after a collision with the goalkeeper in the 2004 Federation Cup final.

Dempo won the match 2-0 but were left to mourn the death of Junior at the Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.

Paul also played for Danish Super League side FC Vestsjælland and became the fourth Indian footballer to play professional football abroad.
