Why will club close down? Valenka Alemao is the CEO of Churchill Brothers. As far as politics behind accusations and court cases are considered, there are lot of cases and financial irregularities agaihnst different I-League and ISL personalities. Politics is also there. If you start closing down, then even IPL, HIL, ISL , FIFA, everything will be closed down.
Whether u like it or not, Churchill Brothers have been one of the most consistent team in NFL/ I League history. Only twice have they finished outside top 5.
Sahara Shri is in Tihar Jail in delhi. He is running 2 teams in HIL. I bet that if he just say yes, AIFF will roll over the ground to give him a corporate slot at I-League or ISL Franchise. If one start digging the past of ISL Franchise owners and the court cases, scams, financial irregularities involved, then this thread will go miles long.
I am not at all disputing that Chruchill has been one of the great patrons of Indian football....but now that he is having political trouble and despite his connections he could not pass the AIFF's AFC criteria and keep his team in ileague, does it make sense for him to invest in the club to take it back to ileague glory? I think not, Chruchill for the time being would remain a Goa centric club with little or no national ambition....
Purely on Football merit Churchill Brothers were a big hit in Indian Football. They always built good teams and provided tough competition to the others. Their National / I-League and Federation Cup records are decent. Why they were thrown out of the main stream of Indian Football by AIFF is known to every one. We surely miss this team. I sincerely hope Churchill Brothers do not fold up, if a top man of the club is arrested because of a non-football issue then why should a Club with a very good record be disbanded ? I hope they don't take any drastic step like closing down.
