  • What exactly do you mean by "forced follower" ? And who gave you the right to judge if fans of East Bengal and Mohun Bagan are not "real fans" ? Do you guys have the slightest bit of idea how big clubs in Europe get their fanbase ?

Nice article after the recent incident after EB 1-4 loss against Aryans
the reason why bengal teams are not doing what they are quite capable are also due to these blind fans who dont understand the game clearly and follow their team and want them to win everytime....
dont man utd get beaten by relegation threatened team and dont their fans yet keep faith in them or take example of arsenal who have i feel has more truthful fans dont they keep faith....
or else consider our own indian owners club who are struggling and have highly emotional fans but they never showed this attitude towards players by beating them or accusing them of bribing
i really dont understand why will any one who is not a forced follower will follow either of them.... <!-- s:confusion-scratchheadyellow: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/confusion/scratchheadyellow.gif" alt=":confusion-scratchheadyellow:" title="Yellow Scratching Head" /><!-- s:confusion-scratchheadyellow: -->

And 600 fans who show up for PFC matches (a large number of them because of free tickets given to Infosys) are all Jonathan Wilsons in terms of understanding the game ?

According to sources in Pune the average attendance is 3,000 which is bad I give you that and there is no reason to be harsh just because we are bashing your teams fans. You guys are great fans but you should have more composure than to spit at the Arsene Wenger of Kolkata and block the players. In England we have hooligans but we never do any of that. When Arsenal lost 3-2 to West Brom during our dark period the fans still stuck by us. And that was the Premier League. For you guys it was only the Calcutta Football League which should be a Reserves Game for you guys and your crazy fans still go bonkers.

Also I am not saying all of you guys are like this. Some are though and you can't deny that

The you need to check those numbers again :P...i know multiple guys in Pune (colleagues in Infy) who have been going to PFC matches ever since they came up in I-League. They say that numbers are barely 1000 this season, and only rises, guess what, when PFC plays East Bengal or Mohun Bagan.

Arsenal fans dont attack players because players are given enough protection by authorities. Have the same type of security in Kolkata and incidents like these wont happen. English football is a model in terms of security arrangements. Football players have been attacked in Italy where security measures aren't that great.

Basic point is you can't judge a fans understanding of football or his love for a club because his emtions boil over at times. Other clubs will have this same issue in India once they manage to get some "real" fans.
  • Whatever happened is bad and wrong and has happened for quie long.. the problem here is not the fans but the officials who have even supported the act..this has happened so many times that EB or MB could have brought sea of change by introducing good security measures..after all they are 100 years old...
but having said that, we have always seen fans with newer love for the sport keep on bashing Bengal football, which is not correct. u dont even know how much passion football is for each one of us..how we discuss football everyday...how much we love the game so much, that even for a local game there are hundreds of supporters...
keep pestering the old clubs though to change...to change for the better..to start being professionalism..but please stop this bashing of us.

Fan violence can't be supported, but it is naive to think fan violence means the fans are NOT 'real' fans....
and giving examples of English Premier League is even more naive....Most huge fan based clubs in the world has experienced fan violence...I totally agree with Somnath about the security measures.....if nothing else fan violence indicates passion, however it is venting out in a wrong way...

For comments about fans being 'forced followers' and 'how can anyone support these clubs', less is said the better it is....

Hey arsenalfan, What do you mean blind fans of Bengal?? Do you have slightest of idea what football is to bengal?? Why do you think only Bengal was able to view last year I league through regional channels?? Why do you think the Salk lake stadium fills upto around 30,000 to 40,000 on regular matches and around 90,000 during derby (By the way these numbers are way larger than any other place in India).
I do agree that some of them are not knowledgeable of football, but can you say same thing about Arsenal too?? Do all of the fans know about arsenal as much you do?? If I am not wrong you were in strong favour of naming all football club in terms of city or region? Is it not only to attract more fans based on sentiments(many of them who would not be knowing much about the football). For the fans, nothing matters be it simple friendly or a high profile Champions league final. If you were able to watch reserve team games, I am sure you would have been frustrated watching Arsenal to loose to Chelsea in Reserve London derby.
You were giving of English football which is famous for hooglism ('English Disease' as mentioned by media). Hooglism is now at downfall in England only because of UK government taking adequate security measures, which sadly is not there in India. But recently as in December 2010, Missiles were hurled onto the pitch, a rocket flare was released in the stands, during Aston Villa and Birmingham City(League Cup).
I do condemn the issue to the core, but sometimes in the heat of the moment(adrenalin rush) one incident leads to another. It should have been the duty of the EB officials and government officials to take care of security measures to stop these incidents from happening.

Please note, I don't have any intent to hurt your feelings, it is just I want to point out that misunderstanding that you have about Bengal fans. As I said, I am totally against these incidents, and it should have been the duty of officials to take care of security issues.
  • Ok before anyone decides to learn how to read, go back an read that I said SOME. That word SOME means not all and not most fans are like this. I have been following Indian Football enough to know how great the EB and MB fans are. I don't know why anyone thinks I have a personal problem with EB and MB. I know there fan base and history to Indian Football even though they have so many flaws which needs to be fixed but I will give them time to do that! Please just stop thinking I don't like Bengali supporters because I do. I was only pointing to a small sum of fans.

BTW that 1,000 figure is way off. Maybe last season definitely but this season it has gone up. 3,000 is a believable number.

Also you guys are not the only places that will gather 40,000 people. Get ready for more NE clubs, a Delhi club and a Nagpur club and when marketing and league get better the rest of I-League be there.
