Kolkata league is not being run properly nowadays. Bigger teams fir some reason are also refusing to play. This league provided so many players to Ibdian football and we are kind of letting it die. You do not build a mansion on top of a graveyard.
Why should clubs who are investing 50 crores/year on their squads play in a non bio secure bubble? IFA as a body couldn't even organize a pan Bengal league. It's essentially a defunct body who run from the money EB MB generate for them. There is a serious proposal going around between both clubs to permanently withdraw from CFL and IFA Shield and shut down IFA (legacy officials not involved). This will happen if Sree Cements manage to secure a final agreement with EB. Idea is to have a new football body with absolute duopoly of these two clubs.
That would be the death nail for Kolkata football. This is absolute mockery. State league is as mandatory as a 4 month isl. That's where new players will grow and come up. 50 crore or not, that's the place where a lot of players have their livelihood. And that's the base of the pyramid. Whatever is left of indian/bengal football that will go down the drums.
@souravindia I think the bigger clubs could take the initiative as you said. FC Goa has to be appreciated. They made GPL more enticing. They wanted their youth teams to succeed by also competing with other talent. But even the youth teams in bigger clubs is almost non existent. We can credit ATK for their success but they have bought it with money. Not much in youth development. Unfortunate for youth players to be in this scenario.
Interesting to find out that some of the promising players of yesteryears like Abinash Ruidas, Jiten Murmu and Abhishek Das have been recruited. Siam Hanghal, Jockson Dhas and Monotosh Chakladar are also there. Mehtab Hossain is the mentor-cum-player of the club.
Loveday Enyinnaya and William Twala are the foreign signings as of now.
