It doesn't matter how we groom them...After U16 & U17 levels - if they still continue playing in India... nothing is going to happen....Key is getting into U19 WC tournaments and performing there... where International scouts are present and also as per EU regulations players are around the age where they can migrate to EU and play in Top leagues out there
Let's be realistic and not think about U-20 World Cup. When did we last played AFC U-19 Asian Cup ?? In 2006, that too qualified as Hosts. After 2006, there are 7 championships and we never qualified for U-19 Asian cup.
We are good at U-15/U-16 level, but unless we bridge the gap b/w U-16 & U-19 teams, none of the Indian players will be able to play in European top tier (top 25 European leagues).
I agree Bibiano has done/doing excellent job. But it is not wise decision to relieve from his U-16 duties. Currently he is scouting players starting from U-14 players and fine tuning them for AIFF developmental team & U-16/U-17 teams. He is very good at scouting talented players and should continue in U-16 team. Maybe AIFF should give additional responsibilities along with huge pay rise.
For us to improve the gap b/w U-16 & U-19 teams, we should have proper youth leagues ( At-least U-16 & U-19).
For example, a U-16 player might not able to show-cause his entire talent due to fitness/tactical issues or unable to play in pressure situations. Even physically & emotionally/mentally not strong enough at U-16 level. But if same player has given enough opportunities in Youth, he may excel. Basically, we don't have enough pool of youngsters to select strong U-19 NT and will be tough for U-16 NT players to transform to next level without proper league & exposure.
We cannot follow Vietnam/N.Korea template by nurturing few set of U-16 players. Maybe it will be a stop-gap solution. For countries like Qatar, it is ok to train set of players considering their population ( < 3 million) and Aspire academy currently training 230+ youth players and they are planning to increase the size, strength & reach of their Academy.
See @munna219777 unless football becomes profitable this is not possible. Else it’s all charity or rich man’s game or start donating money to decent football academies (since it remains charity)
AIFF should throw out Star Sports from FSDL first, get money for tv rights and share with participating teams. Increase season and gate revenue and advertising money. Start promotions/ relegations as perks for clubs which try on grassroot level. Then finally we can blame clubs for not doing their job
Seems like there is a contract b/w AIFF/Reliance & Star, else Disney would have opted out by now. On top of it, Reliance investing heavily in digital platform & they have secured 2022 FIFA World Cup rights. If I'm not wrong, Viacom has acquired telecast rights of La Liga.
In future, they may broadcast ISL & secure IPL rights as well. Until, football gain popularity, they will lose money in ISL and initially in IPL, but overall , they will make profits ( customers, Jio users & Jio Ads).
