Punjab School Education and PWD Minister Mr. Vijay Inder Singla, on
Sunday, announced that the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh led
state government has renamed the schools of the respective areas after
Olympic medal winner hockey players. The Minister said that Chief
Minister has given approval to rename schools after the name of 11
Punjabi players of the Indian hockey team who won bronze medal at Tokyo
Olympics 2020.
India were poor in both the matches. We just managed to qualify. Team is capable of much better performance as they have some really good mix of talent, experience and youngsters.
After conclusion of 2021 World Athletics U20 Championships, India had it's best ever medal tally ( 3 medals : 2 Silver & 1 Bronze).
Shaili Singh missed Gold by 1 cm in long Jump and we saw other Athletes who missed medal by finishing 4th. Also lot of other athletes qualified for final. I feel we are improving in Athletics (both track & field).
It's funny to see few of our guys claiming Australia, China, Britain, Germany and Japan as top Athletic nations. Leave aside USA. They are not even close to Kenya , Jamaica or Ethiopia.
Australia used to produce good 400m runners. But not anymore. China is good only in few field events along with 10KM walk. Japan were never good in Athletics baring 1 or 2 events. Germany not a top Track & Field nation anymore. One of the factor might be change in doping rules. Britain : All top medalists are imported or naturalized one.
Also we should consider medals in U20 World Championship as an achievement.
Seema Punia who won discuss throw medal in Junior championship has won medals in Common Wealth & Asian games. Neeraj Chopra made history by winning Olympics Gold. He also won World U20 Championship Gold Medal. Hima Das also highlighted from U 20 Championships and she won medals in Asian level. If not injury, she would have qualified at-least for a S.F in Olympics (400m) and future medal contender in Common Wealth games.
Indian players & coaches in all d category of shortlisted FIH Annual Awards: FIH Plyr of the year (Harmanpreet & Gurjit Kaur), GK (Savita and PR Sreejesh), Rising Plyr: Sharmila & Vivek Sagar, Coach of the Yr: Sjoerd & Graham.
