Given how fast reliance is growing, it can, and will, take over most of the Indian media. Not good signs for Indian market. Reliance is going to be Radio Rwanda soon if left unchecked.
meaning ?
Radio Rwanda is the only channel in Rwanda during 80's & 90's and they use to influence most of the people which led to formation of government in Rwanda. In short, they used to decide fate of the politicians.
The Viacom18 group, where Reliance are majority shareholders, are going to launch the Sports18 network which may eventually have multiple TV channels. The launch is expected to be around mid-April. They have reportedly already got the FIFA World Cup 2022. FSDL also have the rights to AFC events like the Asian Cup, AFC Champions League and AFC Cup, which may end up here since Star Sports have not been very enthusiastic about them in the past.
Star is not interested in football other than Premier League.
They even started broadcasting Formula 2 & Formula 3, which are feeder series to Formula 1, that too on peak Saturdays and Sundays. There are two Indian drivers in it and may be sponsoring Star to broadcast it. I believe the only reason Star broadcasts Formula E is because Mahindra sponsors it as they are in it.
