To be honest, I think this tournament is necessary for India so that the popularity of the national team can go up. If we just had friendlies in the isolated FIFA dates, that would not attract the public as much as this tournament will. The media coverage for those friendlies will be next to nothing and we will most likely play sub par teams in the friendlies. Why would Cameroon agree to play us in a FIFA date? It is not going to help them regardless of the outcome. So for the next few years, until our national team wins a few more of these tournaments and maybe wins the next challenge cup and makes a run deep in the Asian cup, this tournament is very necessary. Otherwise, ask an average Indian about our football team and they will reply by saying "We have a football team?" Once we have a foothold in Asian football we can shorten the tournament to something likek the Kirin Cup and play more friendlies throughout the year.

I still see no reason for this. Again we got away with this tournament this time but we wont do it again. Eventually it will be a full 5 team SAFF Cup. We wont improve from this at all. Keep up with the times. And this wont popularize Indian football as much as people think it will. Doing well in AFC Challenge Cup and making the AFC Asian Cup will. The FIFA dates just improves our rankings and allows us to select players without trouble.</div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal; "><br></div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal; ">I mean look at the trouble we just had this year with Nehru Cup. The clubs could easily refuse to send the players, they dont have to but they did but who says that it will happen again. Plus we always complain about lack of funding for I-League and Fed Cup etc yet we are wasting money on this crap. </div><div style="font-family: Arial, Verdana; font-size: 10pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: normal; "><br></div><div><font face="Arial, Verdana" size="2">We should just sell out the Nehru Cup every year to a European based club who wants to brake into the Indian market. There are plenty of teams in Europe that want to take advantage of the European market. We already seen Barcelona try and Man U as well only to be stopped by the AIFF. Well why not allow them to come a play in the Nehru Cup against an India XI and maybe a few others. You want popularity, there it is. Look at Bayern Munich vs. India. That was a spectacle. Something attracting football fans of European teams to see and maybe even support India. This could be every year.</font></div>

    Nepali fans...this time India
gonna show u where ur team
    stand eventhough the ranking
    is aburdly higher than India.
    Be ready to be thrashed.

We also know ranking is just making us fool n its just fake satisfaction...we also want to know its right spot. With poor coach and last hour preparation also we will fight to prove we deserve even better ... Good luck to ur team

<br><br>Totally bullshit article..if some people, media included are hell bent on bashing Chhetri then they will go to any length..Chhetri had already conveyed that he had spoken to Wim...Bengali media will do this to both Chhetri and Baichung as there ambitions have been more than just sticking to Bengali clubs :)<br>
