If this is going to be the core squad Constantine is building for Asian cup 2019, then RIP india. We will need a lot of tissues come 2019. Rakip and Lalruathara were rock solid yesterday.
A few months ago he was the most talked about Indian football coach and also the highest paid Indian coach. Life has changed quite drastically for Khalid Jamil as he is now not in the frame of India’s top flight football at least for this season.
After parting ways with East Bengal, the Kuwait-born former India international got offers from different clubs including defending I-League champions Minerva Punjab. He was also approached by Mohammedan Sporting of Kolkata during the concluding rounds of CFL but the deal did not go through.
Now after a long sabbatical from the coaching scene, Jamil has finally taken an assignment- the role of Academy Supervisor of Elite Football School of Kalyan, Maharashtra.
The I-League winning coach will have his eternal companion Abdul Siddiqui alongside him in Elite Football School. Jamil says, “Did not think about coaching young ones. They requested me so much that I could not turn it down”. Although this does not seem to be a long term assignment for Jamil, for the time being his target is to supply talented players to the top flight clubs in the country.
Managing Kolkata big two is a poisoned chalice, whoever had thier own mind to run things without succumbing to politics will either be gone for good or will be untouchable if they want to stay in Indian football.
