FIFA dispute resolution workshop to address Sukhdev issue
FIFA's National Dispute Resolution Chamber is likely to have a workshop later this year where the contentious contractual dispute over the recently imposed transfer ban on East Bengal over irregularities in their attempts to sign defender Sukhdev Singh from I-League champions Minerva Punjab FC will be discussed, chairman of FIFpro Asia/Oceania division Takuya Yamazaki said here Tuesday.
The players' status committee of the All India Football Federation recently handed the red and gold brigade after they tried to lure Sukhdev, who now plies his trade for Mohun Bagan, directly and not through Minerva.
The player was also banned from playing any competitive match and also sanctioned a fine of Rs 50,000 each to AIFF and Minerva Punjab.
"It's the contractual dispute that's one of the biggest concerns. We are aware of it. We are in talks with FIFA to bring the NDRC project to India," Yamazaki, a Japanese sports lawyer, told reporters to kickoff a three-day conference of the Asia/Oceania division of the world players' body here.
NDRC is FIFA's deciding body that provides arbitration and dispute resolution on the basis of equal representation of players and clubs and an independent chairman.
"We believe by having NDRC project (workshop) in this country, we will be able to solve a lot of issues. It will check the content of the standard players contract to see if it's in line with FIFA regulations or not.
"By the end of this year we will have this project. It's not been official yet but it's highly likely to happen. It will involve AIFF," he said.
The Football Players' Association of India (FPAI) is currently not been recognised by the national governing body but Yamazaki said it's just a "matter of time".
"FIFpro has made a cooperation agreement with FIFA. By based on the agreement FIFA has an obligation to recognise our member. It's a matter of time for the AIFF to recognise FPAI," he said.
Meanwhile FPAI House was inaugurated on the sidelines of the conference.
West Bengal’s Indian Football Association (IFA) partners with Sportradar Integrity Services
The Indian Football Association (IFA), the governing body of football in the Indian state of West Bengal, has today signed a multi-year partnership agreement with Sportradar Integrity Services to monitor and safeguard the integrity of their matches.
As part of the agreement, Sportradar Integrity Services’ Fraud Detection System (FDS) will be used to monitor all matches organised by IFA in the Premier Division A of the Calcutta Football League in order to detect and assess any abnormal betting activity. In addition, Sportradar will also provide integrity training to the IFA and its stakeholders to help ensure that the best practices are in place to protect and uphold the integrity of their competitions.
The IFA is the first state or provincial football association in the region to officially partner with Sportradar Integrity Services, who are already partners with leading international sports federations such as FIFA, the Asian Football Confederation, the International Cricket Council and the Indian Super League.
Speaking about the partnership, Honorary Secretary of IFA, Utpal Ganguly said: “We are proud to take the lead and embark on this partnership with Sportradar, the leading integrity service provider for sports across the world. Through this partnership, we have put out a powerful statement on IFA’s pro-active stance against match-fixing. In addition to the monitoring of IFA competitions through Sportradar’s FDS, Sportradar will also ensure that our stakeholders are well trained to further strengthen our integrity framework.”
Sportradar Integrity Services’ Director of Federation Services in Asia, Biplav Gautam added: “It is an honour to partner with the IFA and work with them to develop and protect ‘the beautiful game’ in an area with such a rich football history. As the global leader in sporting integrity, we make it our top priority to support out partners and help establish an effective framework to help minimize integrity related issues. We commend the IFA for their commitment to upholding the integrity of football within their competitions, and look forward to working closely with IFA and its stakeholders in order to put their competitions in the best position to flourish.”
Coming from a guy who was hardly interested into Indian football development and came here to collect a final pay along with gudjohnson another arsenal mercenary.
If in 5 seasons the 3 month tournament became 6 months and now integrates Indian players along with i-league and now gets a Official AFC cup slot then not sure what he has talked about not having progressed.
I have seen these types of players collecting pay cheques along with Bollywood Frick's dancing to finally giving a platform for professional Indians to make a living.
Things need to change and improve of course but we are in the right direction.
