Life is often full of uncanny coincidences. On 2 March 2006, Syed Nayeemuddin was sacked as national coach of India. The only man to have won both the Dronacharya Award (1992) and Arjuna Award (1970) then went through the worst phase of his career. For seven years, he went from pillar to post in search of a job. Nayeem, who has won 35 tournaments as a club coach, three international titles as national coach (1987 SAF Games. 1997 SAFF and 2005 SAFF Championships), and acquired all the required professional coaching licenses from Europe, was shunned by everyone. His savings got depleted as he is a professional coach, with no other source of income .
Nayeem himself has to be blamed partly for this. He was too strict, which has been duly highlighted in the article. Then again he had a problem with Bhaichung and made derogatory allegations against him. He had said that Bhaichung conspired with the Indian football team members to deliberately lose against Yemen. All of this had to affect his career. Wish him luck and I am happy that the football fraternity has come forward to help him. His contributions are unparalleled among Indian coaches but he failed to evolve with time
Arnab Mondal is out of ACCQ due to knee injury. First it looked like he whould fit before ACCQ but after MRI scan doctors advised him to take a rest of 3 to 4 weeks.
AIFF TO INVITE BIDS FOR 2 OR MORE DIRECT I-LEAGUE SLOTS FROM BIG CORPORATES(AIR INDIA AND ONGC WONT PARTICIPATE FROM NEXT YEAR)
PRAFUL PATEL : "In the next few weeks, we will be coming out with a bid document to see if at least two teams can be inducted in the I-League and we hope that these two teams come with a stronger focus - both financial and technical - and we need to bring good teams with solid corporate backing which will introduce some sense of competition, because they willbe bidding for players in the next season, the existing clubs will also have to raise the bar and we hope swerve more competition."
