american market and indian football market is massively different. What works in us can't just work the same way...people have very different living standards here, and thus, very different priorities and fan culture. one cant just put the same model. secondly mls and i league cant be compared as mls has lots to offer apart from the players signed, now if we cant give all that and just compare the player signing model and expect similar results, that would be a insult to economists
<br><div><br></div><div>That is true... I could always go back to the 1960s or the 1990s where the soccer culture in America was worse, if not exactly the same, as the Indian football culture today.</div>
<br><div><br></div><div>not talking about football culture. just the standard of living etc, because at the end this is what dictates how a sports culture will develop. Football people in India just cant say we need to have a football culture like XYZ, they rather are compeled to see, this is how our people are, this is how sports work in india, this is how fans behave in india and thus, taking all these into account we need to offer a product which they can swallow, or they will just spit it out</div>
<br><div><br></div><div>Okay, what do you propose? Are we dead until we can finally go the Middle Eastern and Chinese way of just spending money on "top players".</div>
another example why any 'european influence' is better.<div><br></div><div>under this article, <a href="http://espnfc.com/columns/story/_/id/1512772/duerden-premier-option-india?cc=5739" style="font-size: 10pt;">http://espnfc.com/columns/story/_/id/1512772/duerden-premier-option-india?cc=5739</a></div><div><br></div><div>Nigel Empson comments about how IMG-R league is not the best. <br><div><br></div><div>I agree with Nigel until he said that we should go in the EPL structure. Unless we have a major TV company willing to invest over 100 crores in television rights and many companies willing to help out then it will not work. </div>
American model is very different then India set-up. In US, soccer has to compete with American Football, NBA, Baseball and in a very limited scope, they are trying their best to bring stars like Beckham, Thierre Henry on the verge of retirement to catch some eyeballs. Top American players will go to europe as money is less there in USA.<br>7% of Americans in 12-24 age group like MLS.<br>http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/989739/419471_10150588294383616_104233683615_9185391_1179294703_n.jpg<br><br>In India, it is different. we bring players who are Mr. Nobody in their country like Baretto, Odafa, Ranty, Chima, Tolgay, Majid and then they become star here of Indian football. Budget constraints you can say-we do not have that much money to sign stars. We should make our I-league atleast upto 7% level first. Right now its North East, West Bengal and Goa.<br>Different model-different constraints.<br>
No! No comparison or example with Crickets IPL please. Crickets IPL isn't getting crowd because of itself but because of Cricket which indian people like because of its scucsess in international matches and tournaments.
<br><br>I dont agree fully. People will follow the game because they like it, success or not. Sometimes it is culture thing also. Indian Hockey team is pathetic for last 30 years, still HIL, WSH got huge crowd and sponsorships. Clubs like Shillong Lajong, Mohammedan Sporting will bring crowd into stadium-what have they achieved??? Wrestling, boxing will bring big crowd into the stadium-with very very limited achievements by india. Cricket is number 1 because more people like it. We should grow football in the regions where it is number 1 game-North east, Bengal, Goa, kerala first and then think about expanding it.<br>

<br><div><br></div><div>Agree with most of it (except for the "on the verge of retirement" (Beckham was 31 and stayed for 5 seasons before going to Ligue 1... Henry dominated with Arsenal on loan and he was 33 when he came) but that is a discussion for another time.</div><div><br></div><div>The rest I mostly agree with. Except for the star thing.</div>
<br><div><br></div><div>First off... thank you for saying "rumor". </div><div><br></div><div>Second... would not be a bad signing for Mumbai Tigers but this would be Pune FC's 2nd captain to leave the club in two seasons.</div>
