All this talk about Mumbai City FC business plan being professional etc....you need to scratch deeper to reveal the truth. ..also bit unfair tobuse this hype to knock I-league clubs.

Firstly the 20Crore expenditure by Messers Parekh & Kapoor only go to prove that the remaining 30-35 Crores will be spent by Uncle Amabani and Aunty Nita.
Most I-League clubs could come up with brilliant signings..campaigns etc with such benefactors.

It's easy to talk about getting : front chest sponsors, back of the shirt sponsors, sleeve and shorts sponsorship along with apparel, kit, footwear etc. sponsorship....as you are guaranteed every match on TV and that too good quality coverage on THE major Sports network. All of which was not afforded to i-league (deliberately )

PUNE FC , Shillong Lajong , BFC all had apparel sponsors , footwear & sponsorship ..even in years with limited or no coverage.

As for ticket sales...its a big misnomer.
Getting 25K fans at a stadium like JLN in Shillong at an average ticket price of 150 rupees only probably brings in about 10Laks MAX !
The number of free tickets you HAVE to supply to State Govt , SAI , Police etc will exceed 1000/game.
Then the State FA will expect around 1000+ for all its members.
The cost of policing games, rental, electricity / diesel for generators , maintenance etc are all hidden costs that the local FA and State Govt fleece from clubs.
BFC and PFC lose money each home game..JSW "lost" around 5-10laks for the India Pakistan games !!
For these clubs to make a profit at home games ..they will need to sell 15K tickets.

Unless you own your stadium, the gate reciepts will never be a genuine revenue source..and even then it isn't going to be your major source.
Even in the IPL cricket model with packed out stadiums and bigger numbers...gate revenue is only a small %.

ISL is working on a model of buying a run down houses...giving it a new coat of paint and fixing the landscape around it. Hope this increase the property value and sell it..before new owners realise the issues behind why it was run down in the 1st place.

It's not an anti-ISL isssue...its just a balanced opinion on the other side. I'm looking forward to the start of this League and will grab the low - hanging fruit just like others in the business.

Let's see how this all unfolds in 6 months to 2 years time...

First off, this really sounds so much like MLS in the late 90s/early 2000s... secondly, the ISL has support from STAR and IMG-Reliance... I doubt gate receipts will matter much unless it looks like shit on tv.

    Excellent points by @gaffertape.
    1) Deliberately not giving those facilities to I-league
    2)Increase the property value

I dont know what is the exit plan of IMG-Reliance from AIFF deal.Sooner the better.

Bollywood actors masquerading as owners. They act as owners for Benami clubs. Will some Bollywood choreographers script some goals also?

I would like to tell a story. Few years back, in IPL Cricket, Mumbai Indians team came to Jaipur to play Rajasthan Royals. One day before the game, they landed in Jaipur and went straight to Nahargarh Fort for some ad shooting. Even on the day of the match, from morning , they went to the Fort to complete the shooting of ad and then came running back to the stadium. No net practice, warm up nothing. Foreign coaches were looking outside stadium for hours waiting for the team. Obviously shooting in 40 degrees Rajasthan heat took its toll and Mumbai Indians lost the game badly. When one local journalist asked Mr Ashu Jindal, who is I think head of IMG reliance, that why you were doing ad, and not warm up for team, practice, rest nothing, he said oh our players are all professionals and they dont need to come to ground early. He was more worried about shooting of the ad.
So this is the attitude. Game be damned. Just assemble some big name players for fake promotion, fake invoices/expenditure for black money conversion and play/act like some charity/exhibition game. Lets see if this fake league even assemble players/teams for any Practice session or directly come to stadium after promotion event to play like some exhibition football.

    What is professional about ISL?

man in comparison to i league its still very professional. just look at promotion, tv coverage, website, starting brand new academies ( in pen paper stage but should be there in couple of years), team lsunch. players all looks more vibrant more interesting package. dont know what else professionalism means. they are doing whatever they can obviously keeping a certain amount as their profit. but no harm in it. let them keep money till they are working for betterment of indian football.
moreover it's a btand new league. wait for 2 years and watch it's progress.

I am more or less sure that ISL is a clean exit plan for IMG-Reliance. No one will pay Rs 500 to watch this retirement league and the crowd would thin out after first few weeks. As @gaffertape mentioned, the values of franchise are swelling on the hpe and will come crashing down as soon as IMG-R make the exit with all the profits out of thin air

That may happen. May not happen. Who knows. For the time, enjoy the game.
