You know, I could always give an example of how this was the same in places like the US as well but ya... probably not.

@Ashlesh I am only concerned about the quality of marquee players who will come and play for ISL clubs. These players are old and retired from professional football. I don't know whether they will play with the same stamina when they used to play for European clubs. Will ISL have the same quality of football as that of top European leagues?

Now marketing this league will be a huge task for the organizers. Probably after World Cup gets over we may see the organizers starting to popularize the ISL through promotions, advertisements etc and also bring that glamour quotient into it. People like Sachin, Ranbir or Salman Khan will have to work hard so that people might take interest in football.

The more we discuss about ISL, the more i find the relation of this league with IPL...
When IPL was announced, all regular fans were like... who watch club cricket... this aint foorball and blah blah
but when the auction happened and the team sheet was out everyone was starting to see the idea in more postivie way and here we have one of the successful league in world being played in india.....

Though same success for ISL is not a probablity at present, but may just change the indian football from a just another league in india to the elite league along with IPL,PHL,etc.

@CYBERTRON the answer is big no....these retired old player have no stamina , after every 10 m run they will need RED BULL energy drink...so they need to keep couple of bottles in their pocket....and its quite absurd that you feel that level will be same as European leagues...

    1. Pepsi Company's Gatorade is the official sports drink of US Soccer Federation and Major League Soccer.

    2. Coca Cola's Powerade is the official sports drink of many other soccer leagues and teams around the world, FIFA, Independiente de Avellaneda and Club Atlético River Plate. Various other competitions also have sponsorship deals with the brand, although Gatorade historically has secured the lion's share of sponsorships. The drink is also Sponsor of the Honduran Soccer Team C.D. Olimpia.

    3. UK's Lucozade Sports drink is the official drink of the Football Association and the Premier League. Lucozade Sport Football also has partnerships with three of the top Premier League clubs, Arsenal FC, Liverpool FC and Chelsea FC. Lucozade Sport has been the official drink of the FA Premier League since its inception in 1992. Lucozade Sport became the official drink of the FA in 2007.

@Ashlesh You should know by now that I honestly think that is a load of garbage. So basically by your logic it is possible that the culture before football is big is the same in either countries in which only Europe is good and the domestic scene is different but the path to becoming big is totally different.

I would have believed that pre-Bengaluru FC or pre- North East India.

@goalkeepar I think Churchill Brothers used to be sponsored by Musli Power. So thats lot of power for a Football Club.

@Ashlesh Intention may be correct but the plan, the execution is wrong.

Old, Unfit players cannot bring Football forward.
More focus is on PR of non-Football owners.
CSR Tax exemption is the main target.
Why not full season league? Why short cut version?
Loads of lies show the lack of integrity. Messi is coming? Crespo, Thierre Henry has signed? Those people who think that they can promote themselves by lies have little support from true fans.

Its like believing that one should leave their jobs and invest in some Multi Layer Marketing schemes (Amway for example) to become rich.

That Amway reference is spot on. This is literally the pyramid scheme of football right now and as usual the good company that wants to help the poor young college students (I-League in this instance) is held behind a shadow.

And you are right in how the ISL is bad and how to move forward. Again, Bengaluru FC may have their doubters for the future but they have certainly set a new high for fan engagement and interactiveness and the North-East fans should give us hope that not only football can make it big in India but also Indian football.

It won't happen the way the US has done it, if I said so in the past then I was wrong but I do believe that if the US can go from the "Oh, le Futball" mindset to a strong footballing national mentality then we can do it to.
