If AIFF changes, clubs change. But not true if otherwise. You can't bank on hopes of many BFCs coming up. Not possible in this set up. Where is the impetus?
At this moment, only revenue sources are gate money, shirt sponsorship and merchandise. TV revenue and league sponsorship money goes to IMG-R (with these stranglehold, they will kill I-league -- but that's a different story). Now, all the above sources are linked with the two that IMG-R holds. Without telecasting and league sponsorship, there will not be any gate money, shirt sponsorship and no merchandise inflow. So where do the clubs go?
If the above sources of income are to come to the league/ clubs, the set up has to be professional. This can be started by AIFF only. AIFF, and the league will HAVE to be managed professionally, not on the whims of a politician. This will force the same professionalism onto the state associations, and onto the clubs.
If this is in place, then the ecosystem we are talking about will slowly generate. Only then the ex-players could be rehabilitated -- in the league as well as in the clubs.
The above article says: "Ambani was instrumental in getting India the mandate to organise the Under-17 World Cup in 2017. For the people from these ISL teams visiting Brazil, the mission is to understand cost implications and do a demand-supply analysis of resources."
"The quality of support staff here in India is not the best, not international level. For taking our football higher, we will have to get foreign support. But cost is a constraint," says Venugopal Dhoot, Chairman of Videocon whose consortium is looking at spending between Rs 50 crore and Rs 75 crore on the team.
The above article says that the Ambanis are sending a team comprising of Mukesh himself, his wife and their three children to assess the infrastructure ... and the razzle dazzle of the game. Dhoot and Ming are also going to check the business of football and to catch 'just retired' players (god knows what they are doing there, if they have just retired). Of course, the owners' wives and children are the most equipped for these kind of missions.
I am fully convinced Indian football is zooming fast to glory!!!
Can't wait to see the picture of the Ambanis at Copacabana beach!
Guys, at least Ambanis are taking a personal interest to improve football in India (as mentioned in second para of the article). Other than Brazil World Cup they should also look at other football leagues such as Bundesliga, La Liga or EPL etc.......
As always the ET report is shit..Shows clear lack of knowledge about the game and a bunch of super rich clueless club owners..Loved that quote from the Kerala owner though; for teaching us an 'American' word called 'scouting' :P
Family holiday of Rich people to Brazil will help Indian football? okay. Their money their wish-nobody has any issues. but what about Indian Stadiums where this imaginary league is supposed to be held??? No family is visiting the Indian stadiums where ISL will be played??? Can some family visit Mumbai Cooperage Ground and get No Objection Certificate from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation?? That will help Indian Football more.
