@atuljg without AIFF's atleast tacit approval, nothing will be allowed to start. Somebody has to drill some sense into the idiots at Dwarka that not every regional competition is a threat to their jobs (by being a threat to #ISL). Why can't AIFF invite bids from organizers to handle ileague-2, ileague and 6 zonal leagues (N/S/E/W/CENTRAL/N.E). Give each of them a window (Sep-April for zonal leagues & ileague 2nd division and Jan-June for ileague 1st div.) and let them run the respective leagues for 5 years.
This would be much easier rather than AIFF trying so reluctantly to invite bids from individual clubs to leagues which AIFF clearly doesn't want to run (ileague 1 and 2). AIFF can put broad outlines for these leagues and then concentrating in managing #ISL for IMG (where clearly their heart lies and their jobs depend on).
But then again the crazy assumption here is that there is some thought being put by #AIFFto make domestic football more professional, broadbased and competitive and that #AIFF top brass has the guts to actually talk to #IMG
Here are some comparative figures against a footballing state as benchmark:
Goa --> Area: 3,700 sqkm pop 1.8 million ... ... ... Manipur Area: 22,300 sqkm pop 2.7 million Nagaland Area: 16,500 sqkm pop 2.3 million Mizoram Area: 21,000 sqkm pop 1.16 million Meghalay Area: 22,421 sqkm pop 2.65 million
So size wise as well as population wise, each of the NE states are several times of Goa. Most of them have high literacy level also. And I have not even considered the largest one, Assam. And all are highly passionate about football.
If Goa can support a thriving league, any of them can. Of course, they would not match economic development wise (affluence), and that is where it matters. In any case, anybody conversant with NE would tell that a single NE league is next to impossible because of communication (physical) problem. But independent state leagues are highly possible, only thing they need is organisation.
@Deb_Ban i think that both can coexist. 3-4 top teams from each state would give 14 teams for 2 didvisions. It would act as a catalyst for improvement in physical infra (rails/airports/roads etc), which currently as you correctly pointed out is in bad shape. I don't share your pessimism mate!, i think its feasible and state leagues definitely are feasible and necessary. Even the best state league MPL, isn't truly pan state yet and needs to go to more stadiums in smaller towns.
Yes I agree to say 12-team state leagues in each state, and a 12-team NE league. Actually it has to be one from each state plus 2-3 fro Assam (for its size -- though it may be a bit unfair to other states more developed in football). So around 10 teams.
Second division teams will not have the means to travel from Kokrajhar to Lunglei and Agartala to Jorhat. Will be too tiring for any division as well. I support your views on the leagues' impact on improvement of infra and on regional peace.
Any updates on CFL? How are the other clubs planning (apart from the big 2) Bhawanipore FC/Tollygunge?/Southern Samity?...how is their pre season finances ? any one have big plans for this season?.. What about MPL...any changes being implemented this year?
thanks @Deb_Ban Coach of TA....have they got sponsors?, they seem to have changed their name also...Does TA have a dedicated ground for practice on a regular basis?
