It is funny. They changed the name of the city from Calcutta to Kolkata to free themselves from vestiges of Colonial legacy or to hide the perceived indignity of Foreign Rule. okay Fine, valid point. Now they want to attach a British club name- Liverpool or Tottenham along with changed name of the city "Kolkata" to get mileage !!! Paradoxical situation in name of the club !!!
The tweet that has caused a lot of controversy...the tweet was later deleted...some have opined that the tweet was from a fake account because the account from which it was tweeted is managed in Spain...but the name of the Twitter account matches with that of the official Twitter account of Atletico de Madrid A clear picture to emerge only on 7th June
Even if it was real, the way they announce it would be wrong. They wouldn't say "our ISL partner" since that wouldn't be true, they would just say ended partnership with Atletico de Kolkata. Also, technically they have been okay with sharing a share of a club that isn't recognized by FIFA for 4 years, doubt they give a shit.
They also wouldn't link the twitter account of Atletico de Kolkata. They would just say Atletico de Kolkata and used saved room for a short url which links to a press release (because breaking a partnership like this is worth a press release)
