Romeo isn't good enough for National team....yet. hasn't even pkayed a full I-League season..
FED Cup was a pre season tournament where he impressed against an unfit aging East Bengal , a unfit Mumbai FC and a disjointed SCdeGoa he did very little in the final when up against Rino Anto ...
ISL was played with low pressure dsfences sitting deep. .which allowed plenty of space for him to reveive and run into..
The day he plays for a team in AFC and starts to impress against tough Asian teams who press him as he receives the ball....then we can start demanding he starts for the national team. SC wants to play 442 or 4411....Romeo wasnideal in a 433...as he isn't great at whipping crosses in ...which is what Constantine wants...he will end up being behind the likes of Boithang Haokip, JackieChand , Beikho , Jayesh Rane types
Im not demanding he starts but at least have him selected as part of training camp. He does not even have to be in the squad but at least see how he does. Would not hurt at all.
Yes yes.. Now players will start thinking why go abroad if you do not get into Indian team.. Common guys..everyone know whatever Romeo is doing in Brazil , even if he hasn't featured in matches, he is still practicing with the most talented players in the world.
Even Brazil's Z division players are better than Indians. (Now don't push me into believeing I-league is the best :-) )
even Sunil during his stint in USA did not play much, does that mean he wasn't called.
There is a 10 day camp, what is the problem in calling them atleast to have a look.. Not getting match time in Brazil, not getting playing time or even practice time in national team when you know given a chance he might just prove himself, is going to FRUSTRATE young players like Romeo.
& Brandon as well. He has done quite well in last few matches to atleast get a look at during practice.
Also 1 thing you should note, while these players are taking the leap (to play outside India), they are taking a lot of chances with their career. No one knows whether it is going to pay dividends, even they don't know, yet they are taking this step. Do you want them to stop doing this, fearing what will happen with their career if they do not get to play matches for next 2 years ????
Sunil Chhetri though kinda goes back to the "established" thing. He was already the best in India in 2010 and every one knew and he was not getting time so the Wizards loaned him to the India national team.
Yes agreed he was established in Indian team for long, but still he didn't get enough playtime in USA yet was selected on the basis of previous stints..None the less I am not saying it was incorrect, it was absolutely correct.
You got to remember, players who take the plunge will definitely find it hard (at current level) to find play time in top leagues. So if you are also going to shut the door for them to our national team, then WHO IS GOING TO TAKE THAT PLUNGE?
While at 1 point we want our players to try abroad, we also shun them if they are not successful (read getting enough chances abroad). Well then, Best of Luck to all players who still try that.
By the way romeo ,Brandon any day better player then Francis ,Ralte ....dont know abt romeo but Brandon was good defensive what ever matches he played ... If we don't unleased young talent now and keep going with same old players again and again .. We will not progress.
Instead of keeping Francis or Ralte or holicharan or alywn etc in bench I will keep udanta ,Brandon and romeo on bench .. Atleast these players will try to take their game to new level ..
Fuck this concept that player had played few matches in season .... We need to see is he regular in all matches he played and how he played ......
