The Bollywood icon had expressed the idea of owning a football team in Kolkata but that may soon turn to reality as talks over Bagan acquisition progress...
Bollywood actor and global icon Shah Rukh Khan is in talks to acquire the revered I-League team Mohun Bagan.
Goal can exclusively reveal that several rounds of talks between the superstar's representatives and the club's highest echelons of management have already taken place, with a view to aid the megastar's ambition of owning a football team in Kolkata.
Sources close to Goal in the Mariners' camp revealed that though several prospective buyers had shown interest in acquiring the 127 year-old Kolkata marquee, SRK - as he is popularly known - was the closest to striking the hammer on the anvil with a deal in the offing.
"We are in talks with many parties for takeover. However, at this point in time, I wouldn't take a name as to who we have met for discussions," claimed a source close to Debashish Dutta, a key figure at the 2015 I-League champions.
However, Goal now understands that Venkatesh S. Mysore, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Khan's production house Red Chillies Entertainment, has already deliberated multiple summits with Dutta and Srinjoy Bose, another key members in the upper echelons of the current Federation Cup champions' management.
It is vital to note that Mysore also holds the position of CEO at the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise under the the Dil Se star's aegis - the Kolkata Knight Riders.
When Goal contacted Mysore, he chose not to respond on the developments.
For Khan, the notion of owning a football team, specifically from the Bengal capital, is not new and it has been a long-unfulfilled urge.
"I will say something which is unfortunate and sad for me. I really wanted to be a part of the Indian Super League (ISL) and I wanted to own a football team but there was no way that I would have got Kolkata and if I can't have Kolkata I can't have any other city," revealed Khan, in October, 2014.
"I was offered every other city but I said I won't do it. If I can't have Kolkata as a football team then I won't play football for life," he concluded, at the time.
It is no secret that the Maroon and Greens were actively seeking a new patron-in-chief, owing to the financial duress they were under.
It seems the seven-time Filmfare awards' 'Best Actor' accolade recipient’s thirst may finally be quenched.
After taking over EB (supposedly.......no pun intended) SRK will take over Mohun Bagan ? A new Vijaya Maliya in the making.... owner of both the Kolkata Giants !!!
According to Economic Times Kolkata is "apparently the only city where SRK's box office run isn't as secure as in other metros. " He is desperately searching more ways to connect with the fans. MB or EB whichever teams he buys will surely benefit from his shrewd marketting , rather his team's marketting. As for footballing is concerned, I am sure the club will be in good hands. What's there to lose? The club is already run by shit owners, SRK will be an upgrade.
