Deepika Kumari into the last 16s. Let's see if An San qualifies for quarters or not. One Korean archer has already packed the bags. If she does well, then in possible showdown awaits in Quarters.

Pooja Rani one more match away from medal. But against the fav :(

Ya, Pooja and Lovlina both have tough Quarter Finals but at Olympics one has to expect these matches. In order to win medals, you have to beat the best.

Two Boxers Lovlina and Pooja in QF. 1 win away from medal.

Marykom , Simranjeet, Satish and Amit will play in Round of 16. 2 win away.

MaryKom is poised to meet Japanese Boxer Tsukimi Namiki. That will be a stiff challenge as Home country boxers are always at an advantage with Judges.

Simranjeet has a tough grouping with a Thai and American / British boxer challenge on the way.

Pooja Rani meets tall Li Qian from China in QF. She is 5-11 and former Olympic medalist.

Lovlina meets with Taiwanese Chen Nien-Chin.   although she has lost against her in AIBA world cup Delhi. But that was 3 years ago.  What better time then olympics to defeat her.

Pretty interesting. Do tall boxers have an advantage over their shorter opponents, in general? The taller boxer has to punch down, whereas the shorter one has to punch up. As a layman, I feel that it may be easier for the shorter one to hook and pull up, but I can be wrong.

Under the current Points system, it is not only about number of Punches.

Five judges seated on the ringside score the boxers based on number of blows landed on the target areas, domination of the bout, technique and tactical superiority and competitiveness. Deductions can also be made based on infringement.

Tall boxers have an advantage to impress judges with domination and technical superiority.

Taller Boxers generally have the advantage because they can use the Jab(quick punch) to maintain the distance and stay out of the hitting zone whereas the shorter boxers needs to close the distance(come in the hitting zone) and have to execute upper hooks/cut(which is  more powerful than a jab but requires more time to execute and takes out more power from you,so your stamina might suffer).

However,it is not always a done thing because lot of things like speed, tactics, technique, stamina, strength etc also count but taller Boxers in general have the advantage.

May be AI based system should be installed in boxing first to count punches and all (if boxing federation thinks that it’s hard, so need 5 judges)

I said at the World Cup in Delhi those medals don’t count. It’s of no relevance. 32 medals are all fake because most of them are in non-Olympic events. And secondly, there are hardly any teams there, this was for qualification by ranking.
    Raninder Singh, NRAI President

Quality competition was just not there in those world cups. Was China there ?
    Media generated unnecessary Hype.

Blame game started. Lots of dirt coming out now. Jaspal Rana-Manu Bhaker feud, picnic in Croatia, highly-paid foreign coaches not showing up in Tokyo, domestic coaches quibbling for control... doesn't look like a professional set-up. Lack of transparency and accountability. And then the over-hyped "star" shooters - the social media champions...

Some private coaches also boarded the plane to croatia who were not accredited to the Federation. Who were they ? who was paying for them ?
