Given the rising costs of land, its is not possible for teams or for the case state associations to allocate space for dedicated football stadiums. These old dilapidated stadiums are are only hope. We need to reconstruct these old stadiums into football only stadiums of world class standards( For god's sake, please remove athletic tracks, even with so many athletic tracks our country is lagging behind. We are not getting medals at commonwealth games let alone olympics).
FACT: ALL ISL GAMES THIS SEASON ARE BEING PLAYED IN NON-FOOTBALL STADIUMS. 5 with athletic tracks, 1 multipurpose, 2 cricket stadiums.
Can goa be classified as multipurpose? Doesn't look like a football stadium given distance from stands.
yes it was built as football stadium then converted to multipurpose as we had no cricket stadium to host international matches but from now on its football only stadium as GCA will built there own stadium of 60k as the 2 current cricket stadiums are small and have less capacity
@coolgagan There is nothing wrong in athletics track. Athletics track is not laid there by shrinking the Football pitch. With multipurpose stadium, somehow revenue can be generated by holding different events. Many top Football stadiums where World Cup games or UEFA Champions League Finals have been played are multi-purpose stadiums where athletics track is also there. FIFA and UEFA has no problem in that. Why do you suggest removal of Athletics track???? Two examples:- 1) Hempden Park in Glasgow 2) Stadio Olimpico in Rome
Can anyone from Kolkata tell me about the venue of Beighton Cup Hockey Tournament venue? its the oldest Hockey Tournamant in the world and is that still being played in Grass field? or some Football Stadium?
I was reading a book on Dhyan Chand and there was talk about how Hockey and Football were played in same stadiums in those days. So about 90 years back, in 1920s, Calcutta Football Club Stadium is mentioned where Hockey and Football was played. That Ground still exists? Interestingly, Dhyan Chand and famous Aga Khan Hockey Tournament used to be conducted at Cooperage Stadium in Bombay in those days.
