According to Kaushal Das it is roughly the time period when Indian football COULD allow promotion /relegation from top flight.....could being the operative word
Its a private consortium. Moreover, its a sports city. If the group does well and does not go bust like Jaypee Group, I see this coming up by 2022 at max.
Honestly seeing these pics makes me wonder if it would be better destroying the VYBK and rebuilding a modern stadium from scratch but obviously we don't have the time nor money for that.
They should have rebuilt it like JLN Delhi, JLN Chennai. Instead they are doing makeup almost every year and still it stays the same-old concrete junkyard. Grass-Artificial Turf-Back to Grass. Bucket Seats-No Bucket Seats-Bucket Seats. Athletics Track-No athletics Track. Floodlight -no Floodlight-again Floodlight. West Bengal need a big event like National Games, SAAF Games. Then only all this Sports infrastructure will be rebuilt. Makeup only help ISL or IPL Opening Ceremony -these people are not thinking about the longterm future.
I think Kolkata will need something bigger like a Commonwealth Games or Olympics before we see some real infrastructure change. National Games, SAFF Games, and U17 World Cups don't justify what it would cost honestly.
New infrastructure is built or old stadiums have been rebuilt for National Games, SAFF Games also. Trivandrum, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune, Ranchi, Guwahati, Imphal all got their infrastructure from these events only. U-17 World Cup do not justify. and well i dont think we will see Olympics or Asian Games or Commonwealth Games in Calcutta. Last Time SAAF games were held there in 1987 with salt lake stadium hosting Athletics, Opening/closing ceremonies and Football Final.
India just had the SAFF Games in Guwahati and Shillong and the usual places were used and propped up. I know the last National Games had the Greenfield Stadium constructed but that was built with way more in mind, esspecially in cricket, a sport that can get you anywhere in India. And the Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium from 2011 is impressive but I am thinking bigger when it comes to the Salt Lake.
If you look at sources for the Goan one, if it would have happened (is it?) then most of the construction would have been on venues that match no where near something like the Nehru Stadium or Salt Lake Stadium. And I am not sure about Andhra Pradesh but I doubt it will be on a scale.
Honestly I am looking at it as if we would reconstruct VYBK as something similar to this which used to be this. Really getting something big and modern. That can only really happen from the Commonwealth or Olympics (which it did for Delhi)
