They didnt maintain it properly. It was good in 1980s. Bucket seats were thrown as missiles in a match (I think due to Bhutia Red Card in some asian cup match) and due to security concenrs they were removed. Natural turf to artificial and then back to natural. Floodlights became unreliable also. Just like JLN Delhi and JLN Chennai, Salt Lake Stadium needed a major rebuilding procedure. lets hope they will make it better this time.
JLN Chennai :- Its first avatar was Corporation stadium for Cricket. Then it was rebuilt in 1993 and South Asian Games were held there. Even Federation Cup and many NFL matches were played there. Then in 2013 it was refurbished in present form- Marina Arena. We do have soe pics like when India won Gold Medal in Football in SAF games at this stadium.
Oh ya, I remember now seeing an old photo from that time. Also remember seeing a photo of the Nehru after the 1993 rebuilding. Not much changed in 2013 honestly.

Also was it really just the seats being thrown which lead to them being removed? Could anything else been done?
