In India we have Naming rights too. Depends on who is in power in the state/ center. Rajiv Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and J.N. Stadium are the most prefered names.
Even in England and other European countries, many stadiums are run as a company with investments from Local Municipalities, Clubs and Businessman. Local Government earns money from stadium events in form of increased tax revenue from bars, restaurants, Hotels, transportation, concerts etc. Clubs earn from Ticket revenue, sponsors, parking. All sorts of revenue is generated from hospitality and corporate box in the stadium, Museum, gift shops etc. Naming rights is also a source of revenue for company owning stadium.
In India, the problem is that all spending has to come from Government, all profit goes in private businessman hands. The businessman, even if you give naming rights to them, are not going to pay at the end of the day. IPL type masala leagues have unpaid bills everywhere
This TransStadia Arena makes for a good read. The football pitch and stands etc are couple of months away from full completion (based on their social media pages). Looks very impressive though.
Usually whenever innovative stadiums are created I see a lot of things in the lead up... so many pictures of what the stadium will look like, maybe a video or two of what the "change to an indoor arena" looks like etc. but with this thing... I have barely seen anything.
Thats it ? In darkness it looks okay but capacity is less. How many tickets are being sold for World Cup Kabbaddi? mind it that it is supposed to be 550 crore rupee stadium.
