MCA International Cricket Stadium in Pune. Had it been completed, it would look like an absolute spectacle and I don't think there would be any question in the mind of anyone in any corner of this country that this was the best stadium in India. Sadly, the Maharashtra Cricket Association ran into financial trouble after Sahara pulled out from the naming rights deal for the stadium and three upper tiers were never built. Regardless, it is one of the very few stadiums in India that can truly (and I mean truly) be compared to international standards. Architectural and structural designs were done by British firms.
Is it not completed yet? Any construction still going on? They still have Subroto Roy sahara name written in the stadium despite the fact that they did not give money, cheque bounced or something like that. MCA would have made money if there was a regular IPL team. Under rotation policy, it is not that often that you get T20 or One day match. Good news is that they will a hosting India vs Australia Test Match in 2017. Corporate Boxes, Naming Rights, Concerts, Club House with Bar for lavish weddings, parties, Film shootings are the way forward for stadium to make money.
Wow... I always wondered why it looked weird that the stadium had a small second stand and stuff... did not know there were plans to make it bigger (3 stands!) This could have competed against anything in Australia or England.
Yes I know. Pune needs regular and honest IPL team-then atleast the revenue from Corporate boxes will come. Maharashtra Cricket Association still have unpaid bills from previous IPL team.
India needs to allow corporate stadium naming rights deals. Huge source of revenue in the US. Subrata Roy wanted to name the stadium Sahara Stadium but couldn't, hence had to name it after himself. I can only imagine how that would help construction of new non-cricket stadiums.
You read my mind...exactly what I have always wanted...ISL must do this...
I can't Barclays Premier League being technical partner of ISL never suggested this...
Most stadiums in India are owned by government so selling naming rights won't happen. in England almost all the stadiums are owned by the clubs or private owners so selling naming rights is easy.
