Wait? What is the expectation for India U17s at the U17 World Cup? I am just expecting 3 games and done to be perfectly honest. Maybe finish third in our group but then that is it. I don't believe we will do well enough to get to the Round of 16. I mean, look at when we started... U13s/U14s? You can't start an academy from that age and due well enough to make it to the knock-outs.
The goal here should be to groom these kids to be good enough to put up a good enough showing at the U17 World Cup that potential corporates will see the potential of Indian football and invest.
“We have to shift the academy and the reason being that the construction work will start at the Bangalore Football Stadium soon. The problem is that once the construction starts, these boys won’t have a place to play and there will be disturbance,” Kushal Das, the AIFF general secretary informed Goal.
“In the current circumstances or until the construction isn’t over, the academy will be shifted out of Bangalore,” he added.
Meanwhile, the artificial turf laid at the said venue for a cost of 4.5 crores INR in 2011 under FIFA’s ‘Win in India with India’ initiative. However, the Bangalore Football Stadium will sport a natural turf with the artificial one being shed instead.
“The artificial turf will have to be taken out and we will probably lay it out somewhere else. We have to discuss with FIFA. The pitch will be re-laid. We may put the artificial turf somewhere else and may have a natural turf at the stadium. All those points will be discussed with FIFA in detail.
“We have already informed FIFA. They (FIFA) said that as long as there is a clear plan as in when the stadium will re-start and other timelines, then they are fine with it,” Das explained.
The AIFF along with JSW Group, owners of Bengaluru FC will devise a plan with regards to re-laying the artificial turf.
“The turf can be used but the base has to be re-built. Jointly with JSW, AIFF and FIFA will work out a plan,” he mentioned.
India Under-16 to go on an exposure trip to Netherlands
The academy cadets at Kalyani will benefit from the trip to Holland which has been facilitated by technical director, Robert Baan...
The Goutam Ghosh coached side will also get an opportunity to train at the famed Royal Netherlands Football Association’s (KNVB) Sports Centre at Zeist.
The India Colts will play against some of the best youth teams from Netherlands such as PSV Eindhoven, FC Twente, AZ Alkmaar and Excelsior Rotterdam amongst others.
India U-16 will also face Germany’s FC Schalke at the Gelsenkirchen on August 13th, 2014. On the 17th of this month, they shall also face Belgium’s KRC Genk which have produced stars such as Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, Wolfsburg’s Kevin de Bruyne and FC Porto’s Steven Defour.
Daniel Lalhlimpuia and Delbert Fernandes’ two first half strikes gave AIFF U-19 colts a dramatic 2-0 win over Sporting Clube de Goa in a friendly match at Duler.
A stormy encounter which ensured both the teams finished with 9 yellow cards and 2 red cards. Despite of dubious decisions from referee and harsh fouls, the temper of the game was kept under control by both the Head Coach’s from the side-lines.
The deadlock was broke in 33rdminute when the AIFF colts started some crisp passing move ended with Lalramzauva’s blazing shot which came of the post for Daniel Lalhlimpuia who swiftly headed the ball into the net.
The AIFF colts gradually began to find their rhythm with Lalramzauva continued to orchestrate the play in midfield and was instrumental in AIFF’s next opening, sending over a decisive through ball for Delbert Fernandes, whose clinical finish doubled the lead for the blue cubs 3 minutes before going into the half time.
During half-time the score was 2-0. After the interval, the host started pressing up with Sumeet passi’s header narrowly missing the target late on. That effort preceded waves of pressure as Oscar Bruzon’s side did everything in their power to get back into the game.
Sporting de Club Goa saw best of their chance of the game, when a superb overhead effort from the striker went agonisingly wide of the post.
The next friendly game is scheduled on August 28, 2014.
