India wasted chances galore to settle for a 1-1 draw against England in the their second match at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup hockey tournament in Ipoh on Sunday.
It was India’s first point in the tournament after having lost 2-3 to Olympic champions Argentina in their tournament opener on Saturday at the Sultan Azlan Shah Stadium.
A listless India went down to Australia 2-4 for their second loss in three matches, pushing them out of the race to reach the final at the 27th in Ipoh on Tuesday.
Late goals by Ramandeep Singh (52’, 53’) were only enough to avoid a whitewash against table toppers Australia. Mark Knowles (28’), Aran Zalewski (35’), Daniel Beale (38’) and Blake Govers (40’) scored for Australia.
It was a very even game till the half time. They struck the goal 2 min before the half time and we hit the post just a minute after.Had we scored there the whole game would have changed.
Second half,(3rd quarter) we lost our focus as we weren't able to slow the game for even a minute. It was required at that time as no one in this team is good enough to Hold the ball. All our 3 new Midfield Options are bad. This young Team capitialted and we conceeded 3 quick goals.
However,This Team showed great character and scored two goals.
Australia was the better team and deserved to win but 4-2 is perhaps a fair Result.
I don't know why people write Listless Performance etc.
2-3 Years back,we used to lose to Australia by 3-4 goals Consistently with our main players.
Now,with this team, pretty much our C Team,we are playing a decent game against Full strength Australia Team.
I don't know what these people think while they write because are they expecting our our Team(5 players who have played 1-2 match in this Tournament only, add to that 5 players who have played one Tournament etc) to beat Full Strength Australia Team.
