    What is Ball Tampering?
Applying Bernoullis Principle of Physics and making one side Rough and other side smooth.
It is all about what is permissible and what is not. Even spitting, rubbing a ball on trouser, cleaning with towel is some sort of tampering-which every bowler/fielder does.
These type of things have been going on for a long time, it is just that with the advent of technology/cameras - every activity of players comes into scrutiny.
In olden days, Umpires used to inspect the Ball regularly for any abnormal changes with seam or sides after as early as 30 overs. In case of any abnormality, they used to replace the Ball.
Sarfaraz Nawaz, Imran kHan, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis all were exponents of Reverse Swing. Surely Ball was tampered. Manoj Prabhakar of India learnt Reverse Swing.

In my opinion, this punishment is too harsh. Few match Ban would have been enough.
People/Media are over reacting as if something terrible has happened which has surprised everybody.

  • @munna219777, i think we indians have habit of chalta hai koi baat nahi attitude for almost every incidence. In other countries law and order, corruption are strictly looked into. For them it's an offence whereas we look like it is just a game so feel for players.

    http://indianexpress.com/article/sports/tennis/davis-cup-indian-team-staring-at-defeat-at-asia-level-in-five-years-5126294/

The Indian Davis Cup team was staring at defeat at the zonal level for the first time in five years following shock defeats of Ramkumar Ramanathan and Sumit Nagal on the opening day of the second round tie against China, in Tianjin on Friday.

In the absence of in-form Yuki Bhambri, who skipped the tie due to a minor abdomen injury, Ramkumar Ramanathan was expected to deliver but he ended up losing the first singles 6-7(4) 4-6 to China’s new tennis sensation Yibing Wu.

The 18-year-old Chinese, who was junior world number one till very recently and won both singles and doubles junior US Open titles in 2017, dropped serve in the very first game of the match but immediately broke back and eventually took the set via tie-breaker.

Ramkumar, who has risen to career-best rank of 132 in singles and has relished win over top-10 player Dominic Thiem, had two break chances in the second set against the world number 332 but could convert none and dropped serve once to let the home side take a 1-0 lead.

The onus to bring India back in the tie was on young Sumit Nagal, ranked 213, but the Haryana youngster lost 4-6 1-6 to Ze Zhang, ranked 247 in just 67 minutes.

India’s non-playing captain Mahesh Bhupathi described the opening day as “shocking”.

“It was disappointing display by both. No hunger, no fight and no aggression,” Bhupathi told PTI.

India have managed to win a Davis Cup tie from being down 0-2 only once. It was in 2010 when India beat Brazil in Chennai with Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi winning the doubles and then Somdev Devvarman and Rohan Bopanna producing thrilling victories on the last day.

Paes and Bopanna will now play a do-or-die third rubber against Mao-Xin Gong and Di Wu on Saturday.

If India win the doubles match, Paes will become the most successful doubles player in the history of Davis Cup. He is tied on 42 wins with Italian great Nicola Pietrangeli.

The last time India lost a tie at the Asia/Oceania level was in February 2013 when all the top players, led by Somdev, had boycotted the contest against Korea and the depleted Indian side lost 1-4 in New Delhi.

Since then, India have never lost a tie in the zonal competition, consistently reaching the World Group Play-off stage. However, they could not cross the final hurdle and lost to Serbia (2014), Czech Republic (2015), Spain (2016) and Canada (2017).

The last time India competed in the elite 16-nation World Group was in 2011 when it lost to Serbia in an away first-round tie.

Indian tennis’ ageless wonder Leander Paes on Saturday became the most successful doubles player in the history of the Davis Cup as he combined with Rohan Bopanna to not only grab a record 43rd win but also bring the country back in the tie against China on Saturday.

The 44-year-old Paes, making his comeback to the squad, and Bopanna downed a fighting Chinese pair of Mo Xin Gong and Ze Zhang 5-7 7-6(5) 7-6(3) in the do-or-die doubles rubber of the Asia/Oceania Group I tie.

Paes also became the sixth player in ATP World Tour history (since 1973) to record 750 doubles match wins (750-433).

Spanning his long career, Paes has partnered with nearly 120 different players. At age of 16, Paes had made his Davis Cup debut in 1990 alongside Zeeshan Ali, who is now the coach of the squad, and grew into a legend in company of Mahesh Bhupathi, who is now the non-playing captain.

“Lee is just a one-of-a-kind type of guy,” Mark Knowles, former Australian doubles specialist-turned-coach told ATPWorldTour.com. “He has a unique ability to empower his partners and make them reach heights that maybe they didn’t believe they could attain.”

Paes, India’s Davis Cup hero for years, was tied on 42 wins with Italian great Nicola Pietrangeli for long but finally surpassed him, albeit, in a foreign land.

In his illustrious career, Paes weaved the longest unbeaten winning streak of 24 matches in Davis Cup with Bhupathi, with whom he ruled the ATP circuit in late 90s.

The record-breaking win was a long time coming as Paes was kept out of the Davis Cup team in the last year due to differences with Bhupathi over selection and his form. But brought back to the squad, Paes delivered at the Davis Cup stage once again.

Great Victory for India in Davis Cup. Fairy Tale finish, really a Houdini Act. I am out of words !!! Prajnesh and Ramkumar were fantastic. I hope all this infighting stops.

AITA needs to take some blame for shoddy Team selection. Sumit Nagul was unfit for this level. It is not about Ranking, Davis Cup is about Pride for country. That player Divij Sharan who refused to come for National Team should be Banned for Life. Give Captain full hand in selecting the Team. Congratulations to Leander / Bopanna for not scripting the comeback despite personal differences.

Opening ceremony of IPL was fine, modest not extravagant like previous years. Some sense finally creeping in them. They should think beyond Bollywood also. Cant distinguish between Sports Opening Ceremoney and Filmfare Awards stage.

I blame our culture which lacks respect for sports . People prefer Bollywood and Cricket(Not a real sport) over anything in this country .
