Cricket is also coming back in Asian games. I hope BCCI will send the team this time. Otherwise we should call them anti national

Junior Davis Cup and Fed Cup, scheduled to be hosted in New Delhi in April has been shifted to Bangkok. Recent political turmoil between India and Pakistan, visa issues, failure of IOA to furnish Olympic charter guarantee from Government of India, air space, funds - all types of reasons have been given.
If the venue was not changed, AITA had to ensure that Pakistan athletes are provided visas. And in the prevailing situation, no one can give that guarantee. So it’s a wise decision by AITA to agree to the arrangement,” the official said.

Bangkok to host Junior Davis Cup and Fed Cup instead of New Delhi

There is a long list of reasons why India shy away from Cricket in Asian Games.

A truncated Indian Cricket Team did participate in Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur 1998 and thats it !!!

It has nothing to do with "deshbhakti" or Indian Pakistan crisis. BCCI is actually trying their best to shield them and their financial empire by not exposing them in such events for last 2 decades.

    1) In The decade of 90s, there was a culture of many exhibition matches with unofficial status. You might see Azharuddin playing in Canada or Tendulkar XI vs Afridi XI in New York, Gavaskar XI vs Imran XI in Bradford and so on.
I remember watching some unoffocial matches on TV. Afridi sixers hitting the roof of closed Dome American Football Stadiums or crowd invasion after Sameer Dighe helped Gavaskar XI win.

BCCI had a difficult time getting a good deal from sponsors as players can be seen endorsing all type of stuff. Pepsi in one match, coca cola in another. So they stipulated this Rule  that henceforth Indian Cricketers will only play in BCCI and ICC sanctioned events. The Sponsorship Deal also included the "exclusive" clause. So we do not see Indian cricketers (atleast those with BCCI contract) in various T20 leagues around the world.

Playing in Asian Games will make them play under IOC Banner and that makes BCCI difficult to honour their contractual agreements regarding Sponsorship deal. Exception for one will mean exception for others too !!!

    2)  BCCI and Indian Cricketers are not fully compliant with WADA. By participating in Asian Games, they will be subject to intense scruitiny and random testing.

BCCI has focused on one loophole of "whereabout" clause citing privacy infringement but this is actually a hilarious excuse.

Any innocuous mistake like cough syrup by any Indian Cricketer before Asian Games might haunt BCCI and Indian cricket team reputation and their otherwise calendar.  They dont want that Risk.

& Cricket is not alone in that regard. Golf is there in Olympic Games. But the sponsors of many Top Golfers are now mking it clear in their signing contract that they will not agree to participation in Olympic Games. They just do not want to take any chance with WADA compliance and ruin their investment.

They will not say these things in public - so common excuse by many Top golfers is that they are busy or recovering from in jury.

    3) Cricket is not any Olympic sport and they (BCCI) do not consider themselves under Indian Olympic Association. They do not want their control over them.

Last but not the least, Indian Women Cricketers are the real losers in this story. Winning Asian Games medal will help them get cash prizes from their state governments, Jobs in Railways / Bank / Police etc. They are missing it and Womens cricket in general attract less crowd / sponsor / money.

Atleast BCCI should allow India Women Cricket Team to participate.

They should allow even men's team. If Pak Ban and all other can do, BCCI can't act only as a business house.

Still not fully compliant but good to see some start.

    From the Article :

The BCCI, on Monday, agreed to work with NADA for six months on a trial basis, although their decision comes with a rider. Sources said BCCI will allow NADA to test roughly 10 per cent of the total samples collected from Indian cricketers annually. They are likely to be given access to only under-23 or junior players, while international and domestic cricketers will continue to be tested as per the current process.

The BCCI, at present, has outsourced its sample collection programme to Sweden-based International Doping Tests and Management (IDTM). The samples collected by IDTM are analysed at Delhi’s National Dope Testing Laboratory, thus keeping NADA out of loop in the testing process.

It is pathetic to see that Global Sporting Stars like Venus Williams,Rafael Nadal can be WADA compliant but Hardik Pandya, Murali Vijay types cant do it.
