Latest rumor: Harmonjyot Singh Khabra might don the Dempo jersey
  • For Juan Pablo Angel he is currently being paid $1.25 million ($1,250,000) a year.

Dont know what that would be in India.

that is 6.25 crore Indian rupees :-O
  • Okay that is a lot but think of it like this... Angel's contract is up at the end of the 2012 MLS Season and he is currently 36 years old and will be 37 by MLS's end in November.

He signed the $1.25 million contract when he was 34. Back then also he was coming off an amazing career at Red Bulls (102 games, 58 goals) and Aston Villa (173 games, 44 goals). Now sense signing that contract with Los Angles he had 22 games and 3 goals and then got traded to Chivas USA where he has 13 caps and 8 goals. That is 35 games and 11 goals in the last 2 years. That is not worth $1.25 million and he knows that and no one will pay that next winter off-season so if an I-League club comes in I bet we can get him for a 1 year deal worth 3 crores with the option of an extra year and 2 crores (1 crore down from the previous year) OR you can do a 2 year deal worth 2 crores a year and offer him media exposure and access to other places. I bet if a Kolkata club signs him that they can offer other things than money.

Think about it, these stars are not only in it for the money. If that was the case then the big 6 in MLS (Thierry Henry, Rafa Marquez, Juan Pablo Angel, David Beckham, Robbie Keane, and Landon Donovan) would have been spread through out the 19 MLS clubs BUT instead those 6 players are split into 2 cities, New York and Los Angles. New York because it is the media capital of the world and it has many things a sports star would love and LA for the stars and celebrities. I bet Goa can prove quiet the resort for players, Kolkata I bet also has many great things, Delhi always amazes me when I go there with the nightlife and sights. Mumbai obviously can be a hot-spot.

Also with TV now booming in India and other things like Apple and Android I bet an I-League super-star/former EPL player can get the masses going. Of course now I am going ahead of myself but the possibilites are there. You dont just negotiate with these guys using money, other things as well.

Today the new Australian coach of the FIFA-AIFF academy Arthur Papas was surprised to know about the price of Tolgay and commented he is getting 8 times the money he was getting in Australia and a much better quality player can be brought with A-league experience with that amount. Now I can imagine why Tolgay was desperate to sign in MB and why EB officials gave up on him.

And it is not as if Tolgay has improved sense he came here. Look at this video, this is the NSW Premier League highlights, this is the league Tolgay played in before India. This just shows how bad these Australians are and why most are not successful in India...

I know man, this is something I am trying to tell to other EB fans who are behaving like the world has come to an end after Tolgay left EB. Looks like the NSW league is comparable to our Kolkata super league at most.

  • Exactly, I just revamped the Hassan Rabia wikipedia page and I have changed my opinion. Rabia has a much better CV than Tolgay and considering the similarities between India and Oman I dont think Rabia will have a problem. Great move by East Bengal. Now I just want these transfer moves to be confirmed.

As for the NSW, it is more I-League actually to me. Although is there a difference between I-League and the Kolkata Football League. Not really.
