As long as they have Rooney, Man U will never win. Rooney is no more good. Only because of Sponsorship reason. Other then Fellani, noone else seems to know about scoring.
  • I rarely get involved in discussions about Man Utd but the same person who gives me transfer information about Liverpool knows a lot about European football in general and he is of the opinion that Utd are going through a transition period. Moyesey was a gigantic failure and LVG has come in and steadied the ship but bought players impertinently in part through poor management in the recruitment side of things for a team that needs instant results while rebuilding.

Depay was advised by someone very very well respected within Dutch football NOT to move last summer and to stay at PSV for another season or two but his club wanted to take the money and he wanted to move (though not necessarily to Utd, and he gave serious thought to moving to Liverpool). Martial is another who is talented but is very young and will need time to get used to the league while they did well keeping hold of DDG but only for the foreseeable future. Schneiderlin, Rojo, Blind, Darmian and Herrera were all bought in for immediate results but they have all struggled to some extent while Schweinsteiger was just not needed and a curious signing.

There is a lack of bodies in the defensive department and up top and that is one thing they will address in January and next summer. Their biggest problem on the pitch is Rooney - he is finished as a top player but Utd pay him an obscene amount to pick fights with the referee and for the English media to write stories about. They should never have bowed down to his ridiculous wage demands and sold his ass and now he is a gugantic cog in their rebuilding wheel. Fellaini is another that is a mistake and sometimes you need to accept it hasn't worked and move on.

Utd did look to young managers to build on for the long term before and after Moyes in Blanc, Guardiola and Klopp among others but they might just have an unusual but effective short term manager in Mourinho ready to take over though it is too early to say if he will. The golden rule is that when opportunity knocks on your door, you take it, like Liverpool did with Klopp and Utd would want to take someone who they think can take them forward and kick out the the odd human being that is LVG (who they knew before appointing was going to attract unnecessary attention from everywhere else due to his behavior and attitude).

None united fans I know actually want to see Mou in the dugout. I am of the opinion that we stick with LVG. As bad as he's been, he's been buying players to fit his style of football. The only ones who can use this particular squad decently enough are LVG and Pep. Counterattacking football/Park the Bus tactics are pointless with this current squad composition. I say stick with LVG and lure pep in summer if possible. United are undergoing far more than change in personnel. It's a drastic shift in playing styles. Mou cannot win the title with this squad if he gets the job. I can absolutely guarantee that. The only ones who would fit the managerial seat at united apart from them are managers who follow the Barca-Ajax footballing philosophy of recycling possession and patient buildups. The problem right now is LVG has bought badly. He bought the right kind of players, but failed to take into account the fact that they, at least as of this moment, are not PL title winning quality. What makes it seem even worse is that this season a lot the PL teams seem to have adopted a potent counterattacking style with fast physical players. Consequently many teams that rely exclusively on possession football are struggling. Swans and the Saints are prime examples. Had Klopp been available pre LVG we should've gone for him as he's perhaps the most similar to Sir Alex in terms of managerial style. As bleak as it looks now, LVG needs time.

    Munna. Real

I was of the opinion that Rooney should not have been given a new contract. Moyes did. I wanted LVG to drop him for his impotency. He didn't. Now that he did, I saw the difference. At stoke, we were so devoid of passion and heart that I was starting to wonder what Keano thought of all this. When, roon came on in the second half, we were suddenly looking livelier. More passionate. Rooney led by example. I am not afraid to say that I was wrong. Rooney may not have warranted a salary hike but we certainly needed him. The only player who was around in Utd's old days apart from carrick. He shows spirit and wants to win. That to united is the most invaluable thing. I still hate his scouse accent and laughable first touch, but as a dressing room presence we have never needed him more. As for fellaini, His presence makes us play long ball too often. He used to be a physical nuisance, but now tries to play silkily to possibly distance himself from his rep as a walking tree. Honestly, why schneiderlin does not play with carrick in a double pivot with Herrera as a no 10 is mind boggling.

Also Fellaini is used inappropriately. LVG seems to think using fellaini as a 10 is a good idea. Probably from the decent run we went on late last season with scalps like our neighbours. What he doesn't seem to realize is that Lee Cattermole is not Yaya toure. He will chase you down and fight for every ball. Teams have wisened up and fellaini is marked tightly. It does't help fellaini is not being nearly physical enough and has a horrible pair of feet (Truly the chest-up messi). Also that means Herrera is played as a DM. He unfortunately is ineffective in a recycling possession role. Neither is he particularly talented in defending.

Herrera makes a lot of runs into the box, leaving Carrick in a footrace with Vardy or Walcott when the other team counters. Smalling has been our only saving grace in that matter. Also our full backs are absolutely shite. Our greatest misses this season have been Shaw, Rojo, Darimian and Valencia. Young has horrible positioning sense and Blind has been getting worse every game. Less said about varela and borthwick-jackson the better. Damn! I'm on a full on rant aren't I?  :D
  • Anyways we can continue the discussion Manchester United News Thread.

And no mate you are not on full on rant yet

The main issue is LVG is too stubborn to understand the difference between Premier League and Other leagues. His style of play alongwith players brought are suitable to play only when the pace of play is bit less and less physical. Unfortunately the same is not there in Premier league. Hopefully, LVG understand this basic difference and put a team with suitable players to get that balance of creative players and physical players. Most of the time the team is blend towards creative players only with physical players coming on only in 2nd half when united is on back foot. Another thing is use of wide players, putting Mata on wide beats his effectiveness. Another problem is LVGs instance on having creative players as No 9. He does not believe in fox in the box type of player in 30 yards circle (Chicharito type) . Further, he is not helped by the fact that in middle in last two years majority of the first team players are injured.

I think the problem is that Manchester United is scoring less goals than they score.
