the ESSEL GROUP that owns mumbai fc is RICH, but in terms of investment in the club and infrastructure, its not worthwhile to even mention their work. They are not serious at all, they see it as a FAILED INVESTMENT, they even disbanded their u-16 team.
The way they are projecting it, it looks like tie-ing up with European clubs is something not right or embarrassing. There's no shame to collaborate with superior teams, many big clubs throughout the world have done so. They are needlessly using the 'motherland' cliche here, just as a excuse.

Agree. Even my MLS has a tie up with Barcelona and my Arsenal have a tie up with three clubs (one being another MLS club).

I just want them to be good for the Indian team and not just for the marketing department of the big team.

  • Good for Gouramangi to learn about being a coach. I can truly see him as one in the future.

Mumbai FC has been a major disappointment. I personally wanted Mumbaikars to back football (since Delhiites are least interested in football ) but what I get to hear all the time is another of these north eastern clubs forcing their way to the top by influencing officials with voodoo magic..........SUCKS !!

Considering Mumbai FC have not played in Mumbai for the last 3 years it is no surprise. Wait a bit.

As for Delhi, you obviously have not seen the India internationals at Ambedkar.

Also what is this voodoo magic you speak of. The NE Clubs are at the top because they deserve it. USFC and SLFC want to change Indian football so let them. Hopefully Aizawl FC and another NE club come up and help out.

Now then if we should blame anyone it is the Pune people. They have the most professional club in India which markets the team best and has the interest of the public at mind all the time and yet there fan base is outright shit. The turn-out for the Blackburn game should have been enough. If Pune FC were in America then they would be 4th Division in terms of off the field. They are great but the fan base is just awful. I feel sorry for Pune FC sometimes because the people just dont seem interested.

They are going to change no shit and don't even talk about USFC, a fountain head of corruption in Indian football, as if there wasn't enough already. I have seen enough of SLFC and they have all these bombastic announcements every year of tie ups and what not but end of season, we get the same pathetic football from them with zero skill and hell lot of aimless running, brings all the skeletons tumbling out of the closet and make their few upsets at the beginning of the season look like total fluke.

Without generalizing too much, the most skillful players in India have mostly been Muslim, no wonder it was so very important to get Mohammedan Sporting into the I league to revive interest in football in that community. This may be eye popping to every EPL, MSL wannabe out here but those who are well aware of Indian football history are testimony to this. Go and read Novy Kapadia because he is prolly the only one who writes in English on Indian footballing history. When India used to do well in football, most of the team was Muslims aided by a few exceptionally skillful upper middle class bengalis and a couple from Punjab. Most of these Muslims were either from Hyderabad, Mumbai region or moved to India after independence from what is now Pakistan. Muslims have relatively high IQ and equally good strength and stamina to match, since they eat a lot of red meat as a part of their natural diet during their developmental stages.

The next most skillful are the Bengalis but they lack in strength and stamina, also the culture of grassroots nurturing which was the norm until the 70-80s has died out given the lack of state support and the least bit of adulation/appreciation. Now every tom, dick and harry who have never shot a ball straight is watching EPL, BPL and what not, thanks to the marketing efforts of these international leagues, so not surprising these unsung heroes of Indian football don't get any attention whatsoever, discouraging most to take up nurturing soccer players at the grassroots on a full time basis with due seriousness.

The Punjabis have the built to make good stopper backs but 95% of them are terrible with their football sense being low in IQ, unnecessarily rough amenable to be carded, too much herogiri on and off the field.

The North easterners have a lot of stamina and can run around the park, that's about it, no position sense, messy unimaginative distribution, not that accurate passing so as to compensate for their short stature, not good enough on the spot jump(except very few like Jeje) to compensate for their short stature, forget shooting, that will put anyone to shame, in fact shooting of post chung bhutia generation of Indian footballers is embarrassing to say the least. Just one Chung Bhutia doesn't mean that every tom, dock and harry from the north east playing football has even a fraction of talent he had, that too considering bhutia was a very unidimensional player in a way that he could bulge the net provided he was given enough space and time and perfect passes to work with, not as multi-dimensionally skillful as a IM Vijayan, Krishanu Dey, Barreto or Majid Baskhar anyday. The biggest detriment of the northeasterners in the international arena is their short stature and their poor football sense, add to that not so accurate passing and shooting, making them nowhere near the deadly accurate Koreans or the Japanese, which is how they should try to play their game.

Also I see the point about professional club management being belabored much more than it deserves importance. Professional club management is unnecessarily hyped up and can do no shit if players have such pathetic skills like the present generation of Indian players do. 99% of Indian players don't have cent per cent accurate passing which is so very necessary given their deficiencies in physique, add to that woeful position sense, forget dribbling and dodging which has become a rarity not only in India but worldwide as well.
