You mean Municipal Corporation Stadium, Calicut??? Yes but it also needs renovation. Thats stadium needs serious touch of paint and seats. Cochin stadium was renovated becoz of IPL and it is in much better shape. But yes fans are more in Calicut.
That and the Municipal is a real Indian football stadium. Come on. Dont kidd ourselves and say that the Cochin Stadium will ever be a real venue for the national team or I-League. Its to big and the atmosphere would be horrible.
Municpal is smaller. More compact. And like you said: support.
Dont expect 50000 and all. I will be happy to see 10000 people there.
There was good support in Kochi for football earlier but no any longer.
Chirag Keralas average attendance was 700 barring the east bengal and
mohun bagan matches. Calicut would be entirely different though.
Kerala Football Association is based in Ernakulam-Cochin area. I guess their president Mr Mather is from Cochin area. That makes then favour Cochin over Calicut. Having said that, can someone from Kerala explain why football support has dwindled over the years in Cochin? I used to see huge crowd for Nehru Cup, F C Kochi and India-Oman match at JLN Stadium Cochin. Calicut has good support but there stadium needs serious renovation. Maybe it lost out because of Bucket Seats rule. AFC has some basic rules for stadium for international games.
It will be a low scoring game for india,as all indian strickers are in a very bad run of form. And sunil chetri, don't even know if he has any form bad or good.
But our midfielders are in very good form. If they can do some thing.
