But why rush it. Fine, they want to have a pan-India league... make that a fucking long-term goal. We are already seeing a trend slowly with a club from Pune, Bangalore, and Shillong coming up and cementing themselves in the league in the last decade so why rush it now? Why be so quick to contract? Why be so quick to expand? This is a recipe for distaster if sports history is anything to go by.
I think it's funny on part of AIFF to think merging ISL and I-league: they have different structures(number of foreigners, no relegation, ...). Merging them will create more problems than solutions.
They are trying to eliminate one team each from Kolkata and Goa. and when they merge the two leagues there are one team each from these two places. So it becomes 4 from Bengal and Goa ( and 2 from Bengaluru) -- how does it help to correct regional imbalance. If AIFF really wanted to do it, they should have put a cap on the number of teams from a state; instead, the way they are going about it is smacking of personal vendetta. This cannot be constructive (even considering Churchill and Mohammedan are shit).
Atletico came for ISL, their Kolkata partners are not keen on I-League. Now what?
I don't think any of the promoters of ISL will be interested in I-league because of the poor revenue structure.
What is there in ISL to merge?? Bangalore franchise of ISL will merge with I-League?? Ranbir Kappor Mumbai Team and Salman Khan Pune Team together with Pune FC and Mumbai FC will all play at Balewadi Stadium in front of 40 spectators-4 teams from Pune then. Remove Churchill Brothers and put Goa Franchise in. Then how are they going to remove Regional imbalance. What about Thierre Henry, Crespo, Dwight Yorke then??? I-League )
I think Mumbai fc will disband Isl goa and dempo are same so may be isl goa+dempo 1 team.............. United sc likely to go out ............ Slfc=isl guwahati bfc wont merge with Sun grouo though may be they will be asked to change base
@mohammed_87hassan, ISL Goa is Dempo+ Salgaocar; you mean in case of a merger of leagues, Salgaocar will be kicked out of the team? Why so? You THINK Mumbai FC will disband, what if they refuse to disband? force them, as the case with Churchill and Mohammedan ? the whole thing will turn messy if these two leagues are even in handshaking distances to each other ....
But as @Souravindia said, let ISL start first ....
I thought they were brothers, and Dattaraj a front for Shivanand ... if not, then sorry, my mistake.
Nonetheless, merging leagues will give too many clubs from a city/ state, and merging clubs will be depending on the owners, any of whom may drag AIFF to the courts.
I am leaving the difference in the set ups and the structures for now ...
