• If AIFF really want to build a strong indian team, they should give oppurtunity for indians to play in all positions. So that we get experienced players in all positions.

  • Develop the damn Indian players.

Go watch the J.League. It is exactly the same over there. 4 foreigners, 3 non-Asian, 1 Asian (Actually you are allowed 6 foreigners in Japan none of the teams use all the slots) and, like in the I-League, the J. League teams always have a foreign striker starting.

Yet despite this, whenever I see the J. League stats, it is a Japanese player who scored. Currently the top scorer in the J. League is Japanese. Why is that? Because while the foreigners are the main focus in an attack the Japanese players still take their chances when they come. And how do they do that? Because they are technically good players. Guys who can keep composure on the shot, who can shoot with accuracy.

That is what we lack in India. Anyone on this forum can talk about how every game they watch there is always a chance for an Indian striker to score but that never happens because that striker misses horribly.

So what does this stem down to? The Youth development. Improve the youth development and the ability of the players will gradually rise.

Increase in number of foreigners will help in raising the profile of the I-League, says AIFF President Praful Patel

If All India Football Federation President Praful Patel has his
way, the next season if I-League may see clubs fielding more than four
    foreigners.

It has been learnt that the AIFF is open to this idea considering
they are planning to increase number of teams from next year to make the
I-League a Pan India event. “The new teams coming into the league will
like to grab lots of attention and the prospect of having more
foreigners will help them grab the much needed eyeballs,” said Praful
Patel, according to a Bengali daily, Pratidin.

It has to be noted
that AFC encourages all Asian countries to play with 3+1 rule (minimum
of one Asian player among four foreigners) but it is not mandatory to
them. Having said that, the AFC makes sure that 3+1 rule is followed in
all of their tournaments like AFC Cup, Asian Champions League etc.

“The
increase in number of foreigners in a team will improve the quality of
the games and hence can help in raising the profile of the I-League. It
will be a blessing for the team as the clubs’ gate collection will also
increase immensely,” Patel was quoted saying.

With the Indian
players not getting enough playing opportunity, two seasons back AIFF
took this stand that among the four foreigners only three can take the
field at one point of time.

Same was the concern of senior vice
president Subrata Dutta who questioned Patel’s views. Dutta was worried
about the fate of the Indian players if more international players were
allowed. It’s apparent that many home grown players will not get a taste
of the premier competition of the nation. “What will happen to the
young aspiring Indians if they don’t get a chance to showcase their
    talents?” Dutta asked.

Patel then put forward an explanation
stating that the increase in number of foreigners in the I-League can be
compensated by not allowing outsiders in the Second Division League and
below. Moreover, foreigners will be allowed to play only in the
    I-League and the Federation Cup.

Instead of increasing number of
foreign players, AIFF can allow all four foreign players to take up the
field at the same point of time which very well can answer the problem
and also help in developmental process.

http://www.kickoffindia.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=970:increase-in-number-of-foreigners-will-help-in-raising-the-profile-of-the-i-league-says-aiff-president-praful-patel&catid=42:rokstories
