The rocking chair syndrome ... India inching towards its real position after some 'push' by unexpected forces and little action thereafter. No surprises here.
The Indian national football team are positioned 102nd in the world, according to the latest FIFA Rankings published on Thursday 18 January 2018.
In the first set of rankings published in the calendar year, the Blue Tigers move three places up from the December 2017 rankings, where they were 105th. A growth of 13 points now sees India having accumulated 333 rating points.
India remained unbeaten in all the nine games they played last year with seven wins and a couple of draws. They won the All India Football Federation (AIFF) organised Tri-Nations Series at home in August and also sealed their qualifciation to the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in the UAE with a 2-2 draw at home in November.
Stephen Constantine next takes his side to Bishkek where they face an inconsequential Asian Cup qualifier against the Kyrgyz Republic on 27 March. The Central Asian nation have dropped a place to be ranked 116th this month.
India are ranked 14th in Asia while Iran are the highest ranked AFC member in the world at 34th. Maldives at 150th are the next-best South Asian side with Nepal at 165th, Bhutan at 188th, Bangladesh at 197th, Sri Lanka at 200th and the suspended Pakistan at 201st following suit.
Globally, the top fourteen places have no alterations with current world cup title-holders Germany leading the list. European champions Portugal are third and Brazil are sandwiched at second. Kuwait have been the best movers as they gained 52 rating points to rise 15 spots to 174th. Suriname dropped a whopping 32 places to be ranked 160th.
Regarding the news of fielding inexperienced squad in upcomg hero intercontinental cup. So this will be treated as friendly right just like nehru cup. So all the teams are still their senior men's team. Its their fault they are sending their inexperienced team. If we beat those teams, we should rightfully get our fifa points. Last time in 2012 nehru cup, we didn't get points for winning against cameroon.
