why so much discussion over Marques player like walker and bertos ..half season is over half remains let them stay for another 2 month ...it all started bcoz of aiff rule so just finish wat was started ...next season club can make wise decision ....
I seriously am thinking what the point of the marquee rule is right now. Think about it. Why do MLS, the A-League, and ISL have it? It is because the marquee rule is designed to bring in players that can not only do well on the pitch but also provide publicity. Well... what players can bring publicity to the I-League? Not many. Guys like Carlos Hernandez have done it but not many players will for the I-League now especially after the ISL.
So what is the point of the marquee rule for the I-League? All we can do is just request that the teams focus on the fact that they have only 4 slots for foreigners so use them wisely and effectively.
Just watched the Bengaluru FC match. I really do not get the hate that the foreigners are getting at the moment. John Johnson and Curtis Osano had their moments of stupidity but they made sure they did not get killed for them. Josh Walker honestly could not have done better based on the players playing with him and the same with Sean Rooney who was kinda alone up top at most points.
It was the Indian players that let Bengaluru FC down yesterday. It showed. The Indonesian players (not just their foreigners) were able to play the game smart, pass the ball around well, and take advantage of any free space Bengaluru FC allowed and that is when they punished the Bangalore side. Bengaluru FC just could not do it because the Indian players just are not good enough.
Whenever John Johnson made a run upfield you expect other players to follow and create space for a pass but nope, that did not happen and thus lead to a pass which gets intercepted or a long-ball after a back pass.
Some of this blame has to be given to Ashley Westwood. He either needs to change his coaching philosophy or look to sign better Indian players for next season because the ones he has now may be good enough for I-League but they are not good enough to compete internationally. Even if they had their national team guys they would have not done much better with Sunil Chhetri probably being the only player to make a difference. Also, Ralte is crap, he needs to go.
If I do have a complaint with the foreigners is that well, they are League Two quality guys at best. Curtis Osano and John Johnson are good for League Two level players in England. Josh Walker is a guy from the Conference in England and Sean Rooney could not even make it in the A-League and the A-League then was pretty much the level of League One so that makes him League Two quality at best as well.
I would like to see Westwood move on from Walker and Rooney over the next off-season. Johnson and Osano are young enough to stay and they do their jobs defensively but Walker needs better players to play good and they can honestly do better and the same with Rooney. If Westwood wants to do League Two players then why not go for someone who does well there like Reuben Reid. Do something because right now Bengaluru FC are not ready for the Asian level.
