There's actually a smaller athletics stadium just adjacent to the Nehru Stadium which is used for local tournaments. I'd love for the Nehru Stadium to be built from the ground up as a football stadium. Wish there was a way it could get done. It would be a shame if a stadium the size of Nehru Stadium with the location it is in would be used just to train kids.

Point is that yes, there is Balewadi, but the location of the damn place is way less than ideal and any football club in the city would be better served with a stadium closer to the city. or within it... Nehru Stadium is.

Exactly. A stadium that is right in the middle of the city will go a long way in helping draw larger crowds to football games. Also, the Balewadi stadium is too small for the ISL. Yes, people may argue that Pune still doesn't fill it, But to counteract the low capacity the ticket prices had to be kept high. Rs. 100 tickets got sold out within no time. A larger capacity stadium would help keep the ticket prices lower and increase attendances.

Nehru stadium is used for cricket also. Coaching for kids, local school/college level matches. Where will those people go? MCA stadium is far thats why they need stadium in the city. They cannot play in football stadium and football cant be played with tonnes of cricket pitch.
What is the number one sport in Pune?:  Cricket.
If fans cannot come to Balewadi, how will coaching kids of cricket go to MCA stadium? Just forget this idea.

There are plenty of grounds available in the city for recreational cricket, and ya, perhaps there will need to be some help developing a rec ground so the move can be smooth (ideally). Cricket coaching for kids does not need to happen in a stadium made for professionals, they can be done better at a rec field.

As for capacity, 20,000 capacity would be perfect, but with plans for expansion in the future.

munna219777 Who said the kids should go to the MCA Stadium to train? The MCA Stadium was not built to train kids, it was built to host national and international level matches. And frankly, that should be the case with the Nehru Stadium as well.

I've brought up this point in an earlier post already. Detractors would say that there would be hundreds of kids that would suddenly have no place to train. A solution to that would be to provide them with a number of other grounds to train on. Give the coaches and kids time to move to the new ground and make them understand that the Nehru Stadium is needed for more important purposes.
