SLFC sign japan born Korean footballer Minchol Son. Rise of the asian in ileague and i see these as quality additions. Also shows that SLFC and MFC are teams which have learnt to manage within a budget without going for overpriced/overage marquees or resorting to random Africans.

In 1962 during Liberation war of Goa against Portugal, Indian Navy occupied Dabolim Airport and since then Navy is under control. You very well know that once Indian Armed Forces occupy anything, they do not leave. Delhi Red Fort is under control of Indian Army since 1857 when British  entered there in pursuit of Bahadur Shah Zafar. Fort William and Calcutta Maidan where MB, EB Tents are there is under Army control since the days of Lord Clive and Nawab Siraj-ud-daulah.

As long as the Airport is under Navy control, it will be difficult to build more structures and expand it. Its nice that new land and opportunity is created for building a bigger airport for Goa and where bigger planes can land and leave Dabolim for Navy.

@munna That's what I said, Goa needs a dedicated civilian airport and leave Dabolim to the Navy. I am connected with international tourism and know very well what pita the current airport is!

Also Central government AAI etc are best qualified to decide where the new airport should be (in north or south) and not us or even the Goa government. Civil aviation is not a State matter, its under central jurisdiction.

Dabolim Airport under Navy will not allow building or expanding new structures citing Security Clearances. Moreover Goa needs to expand capacity to attract Charter Flights Business. Those seasonal Thomas Cook type Jets and there is a good opportunity as there is unease in Operators regarding situation in Sharm-al-sheikh, Tunisia and such Tourist places. Goa can benefit from that. If the Airport due to its location can attract Kolhapur area passengers also, this will make case for more Gulf flights.

    Sorry Wrong thread.

Best option is to shift the Navy to Mopa and make Dabolim a fully civilian airport because it is centrally located. if dabolim is closed down and mopa opened then south goan people will have to travel for more then 200km. (only if navy agrees)

Kochi also had a centrally located Naval airport till the 90s. Then a new civilian airport was constructed far from city at a place called Nedumbasseri. Navy will never move and the only option is to get a new Greenfield airport.
