  • We? It's the individual clubs who should be paying scouts to look at the sort of players they want. Bengaluru FC has shown that good scouting can un-earth good talent in this country with the signings of Lyngdoh, Thoi, Rino, Chhuantea, Hanghal and now have taken in players with talent with the aim to develop them (Alwyn, Len, Salam Ranjan).

The EBs and the MBs need to stop signing up the Jairu's and Denson's and get in better local players and develop them. That is the major job and the scouting for foreigners the secondary job IMO.

EB and MBs major job is to win trophies, period. Accept it and you will be at peace. Whether that's the right approach or not is another debate altogether. There is a weight of our jerseys, not for every youngsters it is meant for. That's the glory and vagaries of wearing these jerseys.

A club playing in top tier, first priority should be winning trophies. With that comes money sponsors spectators. If BFC would have gone trophyless for two seasons, they could have been where PFC is now. Youth development cannot be your only focus to run a top tier club, its a part of the spoke which makes the wheel but not the wheel itself.

BFC isn't youth development. .it's talent identification and development.
They have the staff to do this..
    Other clubs don't

@EastBengalPride I think you missed the point of AG's comment.

BFC had a budget and they made a squad accordingly. Getting Sunil Chhetri, Robin Singh made life easier for them as they have Indian goal getters. Other clubs do not have that luxury. They have to spend on Foreign strikers and then compromise on other positions. The moment you see Sunil chhetri leaving BFC or budget problems at BFC, their balance will start to be distorted.

  • When PFC, Lajong, BFC, Bengaluru FC were opening up (AIFF franchise or otherwise), most in this forum were gung ho about the prospects in Indian football and were talking about the right move etc. These same group, when these clubs are shutting shop have gone berserk and have been cursing the owners/promoters!

C'mon! If we can contradict ourselves so much then we ought to be in FB etc and not IFN! Lets not go with the flow and instead look at things from a certain perspective and more so in the context of Indian football! If one day, we go overboard by the steps taken by PFC etc and the moment the promoters see, its not a viable "business" for them and close down, we come heavily on them the next day! Which means in the first place, we were done in by their promises/lure/ideas - so much so that we did not use common sense to think that these are not viable options in India/not sustainable! Expect better sense to prevail and thats the reason i agree with @EastBengalPride said.

Lets understand, the budget of the Kolkata teams are the highest in Indian football, and they are the two teams who have gone thru the grind the most in recent times; despite that, they have not closed down and as I keep saying these are clubs which every Indian footballer aspire to play for at any stage of their career, and if he is not accepting he is either lying or undeserving. We have already seen PFC and BFC and run away in a year's( 3 may be for PFC) time! Bagan or EB didnot do so. While people will again come up lot of analysis as to why Bagan-EB haven't closed, but the fact remains they haven't despite the financial crisis - which is common!

Indian Football has to be seen by these new promoters as almost a Startup cos., and they have to have the balls to think of investing in it for atleast a decade, before they can thnk of reaping benefits; otherwise good luck to them.

I think some guys are missing the point...

No one is doubting the resilience of the Kolkata giants. ..but we are questioning the shirt term strategy in terms of players....especially young ones.

And also questions raised about the prudence in spending BIG on crappie Nigerians or chappy football Edge clowns like Jairu

When Bengaluru FC started people hated it... no one was convinced until the second half of the 2013-14 season. Even after, people were not sure about BFC.

Pune FC and Shillong Lajong were praised for the breath of fresh air they brought to Indian football in terms of a new place but ya, PFC and somewhat SLFC had some "professionalism" that helped but that was before we learned of the true inner workings of what was happening at the teams.

  • Why did Dempo invest on a "crappy" Ranti Martins for 6-7 years then! ? Also why do u think Ranti did not take the offer of EB-Bagan in these 6/7 years? B'cos he was being paid a hefty sum by Dempo!  Almost the same with Odafa.

    So, here again we contradict!

When a BIG crappie Nigerian plays for Dempo or other Goan clubs, they aren't BIG/crappie, but the moment they land in kolkata, for many of us they become BIG/Crappie/spent force etc!
