Its simple economics, Show me any player with quality who wants to come and ply his trade in I-league. You will get guys like Odafa & Ranti and unless you have indians outscoring them and outplaying them you will still find random africans all over indian football.
It was funny that in the 90's when NFL was started, The majority of your budget was used to have a random african or two attacking and 1-2 africans in the CB position Remaining part were indians whose roles was to just pass to the nearest foriegner so he can do the needful.
@eastBengalPride you seemed to have lost the focus on the point here.... partly because someone brought some ridiculous comparison of Ranty with Robin " self-obsessed" Singh...
If you were to rank the All time best defenders in the I-League , i think the likes of Bilal Narjarine ,John Johnson , Callum Angus (PFC) , Min-Chol Son , Miguel Garcia , Luciano Sabrosa ( in his prime , although having a good season to date) would be in the top 10
The typical Nigerian or other African defenders like Uga Okpara , Lamine Tamba , Echezone , Francis Kasonde , Loveday ,could all easily make the worst 10....exception to this rule would have to be the veteran Bello Razaq.
Now what they bring in terms of dressing room value , team spirit, marketing etc. is vastly different .... it's NOT a question of colour as some ignorant guys like make it out...
As @ArsenalFan700 pointed out , Cornell Glenn , Curtis Osano ,Johnny Menyongar were all voted fans favourites , and brought a lot to their clubs , for that matter even Rohan Ricketts did some good ( exposing the cut money racket at Dempo )
The point being , Indian clubs need to be smart about their recruitment....
YOU DONT need to pay Odafa 1.5 Crores, you can get him for 15 laks next season ! and use the money on youth development instead...
BUT we have this ridiculous Management in Indian football that loves to overpay...
Our current NT coach just doubled his money , and his unqualified Asst ( the new one) is on higher than most Indian I-league coaches !!
@gaffertape Disagree about Johnson, IMO, I would rate Arnab above him forget comparing him with Bilal and Bello. But absolutely agree with the fact that Indian clubs, specially EB needs to be smarter about recruitment of foreigners.
What odafa and his gang share with indian young players in dressing room ?
How to hit boot on young Indian player ,how to not pass the ball ? Any training method they learn in their home country , how to be selfish, how to do always shits in box , just wait for ball never go for it
out of 90 min these selfish player like ranti odafa spent 80 min in opposition penalty box to receive the ball and tap in ....even if you bring mediocre championship and league 1 player in I league they are better than random African ....
@arsenalfan700 its isn't anything new. Indian players have a tendency of doing so. They do so that they aren't held responsible for making any mistakes.
@goalkeeper We all have our opinions, so its fine mate And Indian defenders didnt learn how to stop Martins and Odafas in all these years so how..leave it!
